I don't think anyone would call for shooting looters if the looters had the inner moral authority to take only what they needed. But we all know that scum with no concept of boundaries will rape and pillage, as indeed they have. Sharpton can defend them with the yawn inducing "gettin' back at da Man" crap all he wants, but we saw with our own eyes what so many of them truly were.

I thought all the people left in N.O. were too poor to get out by themselves. Given that the per-capita in N.O. is even lower than the nation at large, chances are that the combined income taxes paid by all of them is zero.

The vast majority of these people are recipients of one of history's largest transfers of wealth from the industrious to the indolent.
I would be willing to bet that more than 80% of the people we see stranded in NO are Welfare recipients.
They pay only sales tax and taxes on their cigarettes and booze.

Now THAT is an interesting rationalization - "I paid TAXES, and you people OWE ME!"

No. You pay taxes to avoid being punished. And if you can negotiate the amount of taxes you pay, you can reduce the degree of your punishment.

"Debtor's prison" is a well-established principle to assure taxes get paid. How the revenues are later distributed has nothing to do with the taxes collected.

I'm an angry taxpayer but have no plasma tv. The TV I do have I paid for before I carried it out of Walmart.
