Governor Jeb Bush and Mayor Rudy Giuliani versus Governor Kathleen Blanco and Mayor Ray Nagin
September 3, 2005 | new yorker 77

Posted on 09/03/2005 10:48:40 AM PDT by new yorker 77

How is it that Jeb Bush can prepare in advance and evacuate millions for four Hurricanes while Kathleen Blanco prepares next to nothing?

How is it that Rudy Giuliani can gain control of downtown New York on 9/11 while Ray Gavin tells people to evacuate 10 hours before the storm hits and lets looting run rampant after it passes?

Liberals in the press are executing a collective: NEVER AGAIN.

NEVER AGAIN will they allow a Republican President to unify the nation during a time of crisis as long it interferes with the media's desire to destroy him.

NO MORE 9/11 type press coverage.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE 11,000 KILLED BY KATRINA.

Focus on Bush.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE 90,000 SQUARE MILES OF DEVESTATION.

Focus on Bush.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE FAILURES OF BLANCO AND NAGIN.

Focus on Bush.

LEAVE IT UP TO A BITTER PRESS TO DIVIDE US IN A NATIONAL CRISIS.

THEY HOPE TO HELP DEMOCRATS GAIN BACK POWER ON THE BODIES OF 11,000 DEAD AMERICANS.

To be blunt...Nagin and Blanco simply have no leadership skills...they are pure politicans. They can talk a great talk...but in terms of sitting at a table and demanding action and being creative...they lack all of the essential skills. I doubt if MSM notices that...but its very obvious that they are out of their league.

When things settle down, there should be a recall for this governor. However, I think her term will expire before things are back in order.

It's to bad they did not elect Bobby Jindal in 2003.

They are SICK people. And I'll tell you what..if they don't knock off the race crap, they're going to lose sympathy as well as contributions. Funny, how I haven't heard about Nagin's friends getting special privileges aheaad of his poor folk.

Heck, compare Blanco (D-LA) to Barbour (R-MS), or Nagin (D-NO) to Holloway (R-Biloxi) in the midst of the exact same storm.

The difference is striking.

Don't forget governor Perry of Texas ... he's doing an amazing job with the relief efforts.

He went ahead without them. He called them twice ahead, they said they had it under control. He went on TV and issued a state of emergency for two of the states and asked for mandatory evac... he stopped waiting for them to do something. FEMA (not in NO) had already met with him on it and they couldn't get in yet. I am telling you neither this mayor (who I heard was really a good guy, but totally out of his element...who knew, I didn't see it) or Blanco had no clue about SOP. After Nagin's rant a reporter asked him if he knew the governor of the state has to ask for assistance... he was totally blank and shocked. Too much.

You're right about the attorney general, I saw him on one of the news channel and when asked about the looting he tried to downplay it and justify it.

Easy, Jeb and Rudy are mature and competent leaders, the others are not.

Footnote: The former's attributes are hallmarks of Republicans and the latter's are deficiency hallmarks of Democrats.

Thank you for a very concise (and accurate) explanation of what happened. The not-so-secret dirty little secret about New Orleans and Louisiana is the fact that corruption reigns supreme there and was instrumental in the lack of planning and the pathetic decision making that ensued after the hurricane made landfall. However, a willing MSM will let the governor and the mayor go unchallenged because it's just so much more useful to parrot nonsense like "Bush doesn't care about black people" and "He continued his vacation while black people suffered." Never mind that we've seen video of policewomen stealing shoes.

I find it interesting that while there's no shortage of criticism of GWB by the MSM for the response to this disaster I have yet to hear any journalists report that since they were coming to New Orleans to report on the tragedy they had the forethought to bring food and water themselves to distribute among the needy. After all, doesn't every bit help?

I wish one of these assho!es would shove a mic in my face because that's the first question I'd ask him. Sheppard Smith of FOX said this morning he and his crew were staying somewhere an hour away from New Orleans. What makes me think he didn't haul any people out with him last night? Yet he and others have the audacity to bitch and moan that "it's just taking too long". He and others need to understand that sometimes it's just more important to do the right thing than to simply report the story.

Clearly, neither the N.O. mayor, not the La guv did their jobs. The mayor is the one who clearly blew it. FYI, here is site address of the City of New Orleans own Emergency Preparedness for Hurricanes document. Just about everything the mayor did NOT do correctly or at all are stated his or his city's responsibility.

www.cityofno.com/portal.aspx?portal=46&tabid+26

Go about half waydown through the document to Annex I Hurricanes. Then, read the sections covering Warning, Evacuation (especially) and Sheltering.
