Mandatory evacuation ordered for New Orleans (Please keep this post - BUSH ORDERED EVACUATION!)
NOLA ^ | 8/28/05

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, said President Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation for the low-lying city, which is prone to flooding.

Which is BS.

Thursday I was worried because they were talking about a possible cat 4 hurricane tracking for the Big Bend area of FL. We live in central GA, but that's only 350 miles inland from the FL coast. A Cat 4 (esp this one) can wreck damage WAY inland.

Friday morning they had already shifted the track to AL, thenlater, MS, and it kept shifting. I remeber talking with my co-worker about NO flooding.

So, someone in GA, who has no interests in NO, has never been there, I knew NO was going to flood if a big hurricane hit it directly, or close.

Why did the elected officials, who DO have interests in NO and LA, who are elcted to serve the people, why did they not have an inkling as to what was coming?

This will be the standard reply I'd present to all presstitutes and others who carry the water (make excuses for DUmocrats) when the subject is to blame Bush for all:

The nanny state/welfare mentality - it's always someone else's job. What part of MANDITORY EVACUATION do these fools in the media not get? The people on the coast were warned, told to leave, and chose to stick it out thereby endangered themselves and their families. That would be considered neglect when parents put their children in danger.

The Governor and Mayor's extreme ineptitude is what the bozos in the lame-steam media should be focused on. It was their job to prepare their constituents, NOT the federal government. There was ample time to prepare, and most responsible adults took to the road for safety. Yet all that was offered on the state level was another poor evacuation plan from the dimwit dimocrats. Either using "one way out" stuck in traffic or holing up in the dome, what choices!

Before the storm, they could have used all the school & city busses to evacuate those who couldn't make it on their own to higher ground further inland. But they chose weakness in the face of real danger instead.

After the storm, all resources were put at their disposal, yet they delayed making the request as well as delayed the delivery when aid arrived. Martial Law was declared and yet they still sat on thier hands allowing lawlessness to erupt. Neither can handle their jobs, yet refuse to step aside and allow someone else to handle it.

If President Bush hadn't announced the evacuation order, there would be more loss and suffering, mainly due to the clueless Democrats who failed to do anything - who, by the way, have been in charge of that state long before Bush ran for office.

When you have your hand extended, you shouldn't b!tch about getting aid when you were told to prepare for 3-5 days of food and water. When it comes to your family's safety, waiting on government to solve your problems is no better than waiting on a welfare check instead of getting off your arse and finding work.

But I guess wading around in sewage and griping about it is a much more pleasing alternative if you always pull the "D" lever when it's time to elect leadership. The failure of a democrat-led state is why the media is out in force trying to point fingers at Bush, when they all know the reality of the situation...their own failures cause many more to die than would have if they hadn't been slow to react.

Do you think they would blame Bill Clinton, if he had been president?

The idiot "black" politicians in Atlanta had a news conference yesterday. One had the nerve to say, "they wouldn't be left to die, if they were whites!" bug eyed Cynthia "moonbat" McKinney was standing behind the whole group of gansters. It was a bad and infurating spectical.

"The federal government should be quicker to respond,"

Your post is absolutely correct except the above quote. I just don't agree, because when the system breaks down (no state or local plan) it takes time for the federal agencies to replace the infrastructure (ER plans) that should have already been in place. I'll bet the even since 9/11 these people have been given 10's of millions to put ER plans together.

It looks like Blanco and whats his name mayor really failed to have a plan.

They had a plan but they didn't follow it, and now the mainstream liars are trying to bail them out and blame Bush.

"The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School buses and municipal buses, government owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.

This is being kept from the American public by the lousy liberal news media. The mayor refused to follow this plan, period. Witness the 200 school buses sitting empty and under water. He knew a week ahead that a catagory 5 storm was headed for NO, but did nothing. Now the liars are trying to hide it.

Yeah, I finally heard it. Considering how the democrat responses usually are, I was surprised they were having one. I'm glad they let someone from there give it instead of the usual dem suspects.

I probably didn't word it quite right. As a general rule, the federal government should work to respond as quick as possible. But there's only so much they can do at that level. It takes time to gather resources from other states, which what federal response is. During that time, it's up to the local and state governments to respond.

If he had had the wisdom to move these busses - where would he have placed them; where was the high ground and when could they have been used to evacuate the city? No roads, bridges out, power lines down and no communication. The answer was to Get Out of Dodge early on - the media hype of these storms are in part to blame – they have sensationalized these storms over and over again; crying wolf too often left many unable to accept the very real possibility of the storm hitting just where it did and the flood warnings just went out the window. Interesting that most buildings along Canal and Bourbon streets are still standing……….there were no building codes in those days.

Yes, kudos to Haley Barbour and MS, and may God speed relief to all the storm victims.

Al Sharpton and Kanye West can slander all they please, but I don't see Mississippians shooting at rescuers or burning down the rest of their buildings. Hmmm.

Believe me when I say ALL levels, I mean ALL levels. The Police Chief, Mayor and Governor should be charged with MANY crimes. BUT the FEDS response was pathetic also:

NWS to NO: "Cat 5 storm coming, it will destroy everything .... Good Luck"....

President: "Evacuate & May God Bless You ...." What help did the President offer LA LAST Saturday? He declared a State of Emergency ... What happened? .... NOTHING ..... the FEDS slept in on Sunday ..... What Warning Orders were issued last Saturday Night? Since the Army Corps of Engineers knows where the flooding will occur, Why wasn't an Army engineer battalion brought in to repair any breeches. Since President Bush EXPECTED New Orleans to be destroyed what Federal troops were deployed? What actions were taken by the FEDERAL government Saturday when a State of Emergency was Declared?

I understand that the local government TOTALLY dropped the ball. I understand that the vast majority of responsiblity goes to the local government BUT .... the FEDS FAILED also ....

***Not to quibble too much...I'm extremely glad for the ammunition to defend Bush...but "appeal" is a bit different from "order" as is in your title.***

The President cannot, by law, ORDER a governor to evacuate a state, nor can he send in federal troops without the governor's permission. States rights must be upheld in order to prevent some future president from becoming a dictator. Think of Gore or Kerry as president, and you'll see how the law protects this country from being taken over by subversives.

If anyone has the exact wording of the law on this matter, it would be appreciated so that we can counteract the libs' claims.

What is sad is that the elected officials were totally incompetent to handle any emergency.

Hopefully the voters will now realize that the promises of 'more free stuff, corruption and the freedom of slighter prison sentences', just don't hack it when emergencies arise and will vote in officials that can do the job.

And .. they had a gazillion school busses sitting there which could have moved the people out of that area - but the Mayor wouldn't use them because they didn't have bathrooms. Well .. you can hose out the bus of pee and feces easier than you can dead bodies.
