The Astrodome's new residents will be issued passes that will let them leave and return as they please, something that wasn't permitted in New Orleans. Organizers also plan to find ways to help the refugees contact relatives.

You're welcome.

Numerous great points.

One point you could have covered was that the Mayor failed to utilize the 150-300 school buses that are now sitting underwater during the evacuation phase.

2 lanes going out of town, 2 lanes coming in.

The 2 incoming should have been bus lanes evacuation the left behind "poor" we heard endlessly about.

The buses were a wasted vital resource. Gotten out of town prior to the hurricane they would have been available to come back into town to get the survivors of the flood and hurricane.

Chief of police of NO on TV last night howling about "We need buses now". You had buses, Chief. You squandered them.

Underwater useless to anyone.

Hey! Knock it off! That's way too many unpalatable truths for one thread!

But since we're in the mood, let me add one observation: this unsocialized, uneducated, and unproductive urban underclass is an ARTIFACT of Welfarism and the modern state. Without it, people would have got on with their lives as people always do.

They are the way they are because the government PAYS people to behave badly. It's insane, really, but it serves the interest of the State, qua state.

Nobody prevented anyone from leaving the superdome. What would have happened? Would those that left have been shot? How many people were preventing 10's of thousands of people from leaving? Nonsense. If they had wanted to leave they could have.

The cameras used by the TV networks have a computer program that colorizes--if they get a shot of a white looter, the camera automatically alters the person's appearance so he appears to be an African American. Just another sign of the rampant racism in corporate America.

Hi Maria, thanks for your report. I'm not familiar with Stephan - is he syndicated, where is he based, is he a confirmed liberal?

"Hi Maria, thanks for your report. I'm not familiar with Stephan - is he syndicated, where is he based, is he a confirmed liberal?"

Dougie is on for 4-5 hours every morning. He lives in Massachusetts, has homes in Florida and California, and is currently "involved" with some 40-year old named Hillary who is going to give birth momentarily (not his baby). I think his website is dougstephan.com, and he is THE most self-centered liberal jerk on the radio. Well, maybe since I don't listen to every radio program, I have exaggerated. Why our local station here in Amarillo actually pays for his program is beyond me. OTOH...I DO get my face on and my hair done in record speed because I get so mad listening to him! Why don't I listen to the only other station available at that time? I don't own cattle, horses, or other livestock and I'm not interested in cattle futures.

Thanks again, Maria.

I think Hillary is lying to him about her age ;-)

Sounds like those cattle futures might be a good alternative to this guy. Reminds me of when I was living in France and would tune into the BBC radio news. I took odd pleasure in listening to the UK maritime forecasts.

Hi Jack,

You have many good points in your post. Unfortunately, your post has a tone of labeling these people as parasitic to the society.

I just wanted to remind you something: these people are the creators of JAZZ music which is revered all around the world. It is one of the few remaining things which people of the world still care to respect about USA.

Like in all complex societies of animals like ants and bees, there are NATURAL divisions of labor among human society. As you must know, these specialized members of the society cannot accomplish the tasks of the other specialized groups in their society.

Do you believe that people of New Orleans could really create this wonderful music while they are trying to climb the corporate ladder? Do you believe that if it wasn't up to the atmosphere of their cities, this music could still 'be' and contribute to the HUMAN CIVILIZATION and CULTURE? or would the tourists flood to their cities?

Do you think you are, at your own work or by writing this post, contributing any permanent improvement to the human civilization and culture? I don't. I cannot create art!

We all want justice. But, justice and equality does not a mean a "bland" society where people become DEPRESSED because there is no BEAUTY OF HUMAN LIFE in their society.

As far as I know, all the great empires and emperors have protected their artists and scientists. So should we be more tolerant toward a city which brings the ATMOSPHERE to allow artists to flourish.

I personally would not mind sharing a little part of my gains with someone who does not "officially" work, if I am aware that this brings even a small contribution to a great art, which I personally am not able to create !
