~ Canteen Music Dedication ~

Online Entertainment For Our Troops!

Music Theme: Canteener Music Playlists and more music!

Notes: Please ping laurenmarlowe to all requests on the thread and via FReepmail!

Thank you to LUV W, Jack Deth, Esmeralda, and TheMom for sharing some of their favorite songs with our Troops, Veterans, and their families. We hope you enjoy the diversity of musical selections.

An observation: None of our Guest Canteen Deejays had any songs that crossed over to one another's list. True diversity!

Canteener Playlist: LUV W

What was the first song you remember hearing on the radio?
1.A song called "Sentimental Journey" by Doris Day that I would sing along with and made my Mom cry as she was taking my Dad back to the train station when he was going into the Army.

What was the first album/cassette/CD did you purchase?
2. The first album I bought was when I was a really little girl of Bozo the Clown--no music, but I loved the story.

"I was at the range today and will prolly go sunday too. I learned sumpthin today, never try to shoot ,223 in a 5.45x39 rifle. They sure look similar but 223 will jam into the chamber of a 223. That really sucks L0L"

There's a reason why ammuntion is stamped at its base, mylife.

Don't feel too bad. I've managed to fire .223 out of a Cinese SKS without much problem. Wouldn't recommend it, though.

I'm also a big fan of P.J. O'Rourke. Since his days at "The National Lampoon". Love "Republican Party Reptile" and "Give War A Chance".

Jack.

I went to Ranier Beach High School in Seattle with Jimi. I knew his little sister quite well. When he died, the funeral was held just across the street from the apartments my family lived in. Jimi was a gifted musician who let his life get out of control.

Williamsburg native Bruce Hornsby was embraced by Hampton Roads audiences long before he gained national attention in 1986. During the late 1970s, the Bruce Hornsby Band (later "The Range") performed in venues ranging from the Virginia Beach oceanfront to Williamsburg's Green Leaf Café.

Hornsby's first album, The Way It Is, released in 1986, went double-platinum and earned the singer his first Grammy, for Best New Artist. The album also topped the charts in England, Germany, Canada and Australia. Of six other Grammy nominations, he took the award for Best Bluegrass Recording for "The Valley Road," recorded with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; and Best Pop Instrumental for "Barcelona Mona," with Branford Marsalis.

Hornsby's style is eclectic, but always features the piano at the center. Entertainer Elton John credited Hornsby with reviving the piano sound in rock music.

In addition to recording and performing as a headliner, Hornsby has toured with other well-known artists, such as Sheena Easton and The Grateful Dead. He has played piano on albums by Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley and Bob Dylan and has invited such artists as Raitt, Jerry Garcia, Branford Marsalis and Phil Collins to share tracks on his own albums.

Hornsby tours extensively, but maintains his home in Williamsburg, Virginia.
