~ Canteen Music Dedication ~

Online Entertainment For Our Troops!

Music Theme: Canteener Music Playlists and more music!

Notes: Please ping laurenmarlowe to all requests on the thread and via FReepmail!

Thank you to LUV W, Jack Deth, Esmeralda, and TheMom for sharing some of their favorite songs with our Troops, Veterans, and their families. We hope you enjoy the diversity of musical selections.

An observation: None of our Guest Canteen Deejays had any songs that crossed over to one another's list. True diversity!

Canteener Playlist: LUV W

What was the first song you remember hearing on the radio?
1.A song called "Sentimental Journey" by Doris Day that I would sing along with and made my Mom cry as she was taking my Dad back to the train station when he was going into the Army.

Those tombstones are quite offensive. We wondered just how many of the names were actually known to the moonbats, and whether the families of the names were aware their names were being used. A great time, though. It was great to meet you guys and really look forward to the next one. Hopefully that van they called a bus will breakdown in some Red County..

This week's Drumbo Drummer's Corner features a cat named Ralph Gallant. He started his drumming career in his hometown, Norfolk, Virginia. He then moved to Detroit where he was a part of the token white combo at Berry Gordy's Motown Records. One day, the label's studio drummer, Benny Benjamin died suddenly and young Ralph (who by this time went by the stage name of Larrie Londin), suddenly found himself playing drums on records by The Supremes, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder among many others. After a few years and thousands of sessions in the Motor City, Larrie moved to Nashville where he landed a job, first on the Tennessee Ernie Ford summer replacent TV show and then on The Porter Wagner TV Show where he eventually met most of the stars in Nashville, including Porter Wagnor's protégé, Dolly Parton.

Larrie eventually played on sessions for about every Nashville artist you or I can name, further expanding his already impressive resume, and he spent four years behind the drum kit on the TV show "HeeHaw" and then moved to the "House Band" for the Nashville Network's "Nashville Now".

Origionally called to fill in for Ronnie Tuitt, Larrie spent eight years drumming for Elvis Presley, including several albums, many Vegas stints, live tours and the famous "Aloha From Hawaii" broadcast (the first ever worldwide satellite broadcast).

Larrie was the drummer for the Everly Brothers as well as doing an Album with Journey (Raised On Radio) replacing Steve Smith, and a solo album with Steve Perry (Street Talk) as well as a world tour with guitarist Adrian Belew. Ricky Scaggs, Mearle Haggard, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Glenn Campbell - Larrie recorded and toured with them all, including six albums with The Carpenters - etc., etc., etc. The ultimate studio musician, Larrie Londin played with everyone ... and you've heard him drumming more than you'll ever know and probablly didn't know his name.

Larrie was imho, was the "World's Greatest Drummer" and he was my dear friend - one of the best I've ever had. My Internet tribute and Interview with him can be found here: Larrie Londin - The Greatest Drummer In The World

You'll also find part of my recollections reprinted at Drummer World with loads of pics and a sound clip with Chet Atkins and Mark Knoepfler. On August 24, 1992, several months after a Presidential Command Performance with Chet Atkins, the world lost its greatest drummer.

RIP my brother from a different mother.

Here's a very brief retrospective of some of Larrie's work. Enjoy!

USS Saipan, woohoo- my grandfather was on the island during ww2. During one air raid he dove for a cave and encountered a wild beast that was as scared as he was. The beast never charged him or provoked him. The beast smelled to high heaven though and either it or him had to go.
At sunrise he discovered his cave mate was a small goat..
