...'Would the response have been more urgent if the victims had been mainly white? Is economic class a factor even more than race?
In Orleans Parish, where the boundaries are the same as the city limits, 66.6 percent of the residents are black. The black population nationwide is 12.1 percent. snip..
When 80 percent of the city's population, according to the mayor, evacuated before Hurricane Katrina, that left behind those with no cars, no resources, no way out. Twenty-one percent of Orleans Parish households earn less than $10,000 a year. Nearly 27,000 families are below the poverty level. Most of those families are black......
snip...Larry E. Davis, director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center on Race and Social Problems, said images of the disaster are an embarrassment to this nation...

Race was not an issue for anything concerning hurricane Katrina. Anyone who claims it was is a racist themselves, and they are trying to inject racism into a natural disaster where it does not belong. Further response is not necessary. All any of us have to remember is this is disgraceful and proves that people on the left are racist themselves as they accuse others of doing what they are guilty of.

In fact, he did not! He said, "Bush doesn't care about black people." And, it didn't go away and get buried as I had thought. Drudge was also watching and seems to be making a big deal about it.
Drudge identifies the guy (I never heard of him) and presents the news in "red." Check Drudge for details. I misquoted the black racist thug but, as the ultra-left wing said about Rather's forgeries, it was close enough to be accurate.

Any plan to get New Orleans residents with no car out of the city would have to be local by nature. Uncle Sam doesn't know where Aunt Gertrude with the hip problem lives or where the poorest projects are or how to route emergency traffic. Any such plan is local by necessity.
Uncle Sam can provide money and resources to implement such a plan. But the lack of a plan, and the lack of doing anything worthwhile locally, that lands at the doorstep in New Orleans and LA.

I've lived in Florida all my life. I understand about hurricanes. I evacuate when they tell me to. I have hurricane supplies on hand, canned foods, snacks, extra water, batteries, candles, etc. If I had a baby, I'd have extra diapers and baby food.
Doesn't everyone do this? I guess nor!!

And here I thought that this was a time for the country to come together. No, wait, it's time for partisan sniping and racism bogeymen. My mistake. I thought the same thing. The sad thing is, I keep losing sight of my sympathy for the victims because of all of this, and I don't like that happening.

incredible race baiters...
I look at a soldier and I don't see white or black, I see a soldier.
I look at a policeman, I don't see black or white, I see a policeman.
I see a nurse, I only see a nurse.
I see a mother, I only see a mother.
I see scum of the earth, I only see that they are scum.
Any one who could possibly believe that President Bush is an uncaring man, is brain dead.

If the Mayor didnt want to use the busses , why didnt he at least move them to higher ground? When the Air Force hears of a storm coming the first thing they do is fly out the planes to a safer location.
I know that, being a Florida FReeper, I am always subject to ridicule for our collective lack of intelligence, but even I can say that whenever we are threatened by a hurricane (which is fairly often, at least in the last couple of years), we have the good sense to MOVE THE FREAKING BUSES TO HIGH GROUND.
Morons.
As an aside, I am working this weekend, which means that hundreds of people will see my computer over the next few days. The "Submerged Buses" photo is now my desktop background, and I plan to explain that photo as many times as I can. (One more time for emphasis ... MORONS!)

Bitt, you simply must cease consorting with the Politically Incorrect. Not only is the left side of your immortal soul in danger, but when Hillary is elected, you just might find yourself on the wrong side of the wire at the Ho Chi Minh/Fonda/Kerry Re-Education Facility.
Repent before it's too late.

Do you people realize that if these buses were to be run all over the state, packed with refugees, that many of them could break down and therefore be unavailable on Election Day, when they really would be needed to bus voters to the many precincts where they are registered?
What if the present Mayor Nagin, whom I think I remember from the old Amos'n'Andy Show, were to be, you know, like unelected. Would this not lead to massive social unrest?

Might as well give them a car. We give them EVERYTHING else and now they want us to think for them because they were to damn stupid to figure out "maybe I better leave. I might drown or get stranded if I stay. But if I stay, I can bilk America out of even more money and not have to do anything ever again if I play my cards right" Trust me, they didn't mind the wait. It gave them time to think up $$ BILLIONS $$ of ways to screw taxpayers out of everything they could.
