...'Would the response have been more urgent if the victims had been mainly white? Is economic class a factor even more than race?
In Orleans Parish, where the boundaries are the same as the city limits, 66.6 percent of the residents are black. The black population nationwide is 12.1 percent. snip..
When 80 percent of the city's population, according to the mayor, evacuated before Hurricane Katrina, that left behind those with no cars, no resources, no way out. Twenty-one percent of Orleans Parish households earn less than $10,000 a year. Nearly 27,000 families are below the poverty level. Most of those families are black......
snip...Larry E. Davis, director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center on Race and Social Problems, said images of the disaster are an embarrassment to this nation...

It looks to me like whitey care more than the elected city leadership. Why is that?
Me too, but lets keep up the fight.
From now on, all folks on welfare, will receive a new car! This way, If ever this happens again, ALL citizens will be able to leave the area!!!
What do ya think??!
Would the response have been more urgent if the gov or mayor were competent?
And a hefty monthly gas and insurance stipend plus paid parking passes.
let's see: people told to evacuate don't and their elected officials don't help the ones who can't
thugs arm themselves with guns and shoot at those attempting to rescue...again elected officials do nothing
streets are filled with chaos, water, sewage and mayhem
people have been rewarded time and time again by learning helplessness and so they continue to behave in a helpless, entitled way
but yeah, sure it is all about race.
I just saw the New Orleans police superintendent on Fox being interviewed by the loathsome Geraldo. I can now understand the ineptitude and corruption of that police department.
WHY DIDN'T YOU DEPLOY THE BUSES, MAYOR?... New Orleans Lost Opportunity
I love this place! If you're not 100%, folks come it and make it so!!
When they are done analyzing what happened it's going to be found out that the failure to evacuate was the real culprit. I lived through hurricane Hugo and it was mild compared to this. You couldn't drive your car for at least 3 days because there were trees down everywhere. No electricity, no phone service, no hot water, no gas to heat food with, if you did find a store open it was cleaned out of all the essentials in the first 3 hours. It's hard to blame anyone really and hindsight is always 20/20.
Good posting, Bitt.
I addressed a similar article at my blog.
The libs were more than happy to bring in buses on Election Day, but where were they on Katrina Day?
(I was gonna say "Judgement Day", but it sounded a bit too....uh...judgemental....)
Of course, the racist babbling of blacks and black voters who support dems 95% leaves little reason, at least in the political sense, for good guys to be concerned about blacks. At the same time, it gives little reason for scumbah dems to be much concerned about them, either.
I don't know who this black racist with Meyers was and, alas, no media will ever rebroadcast his words. Had a white said something like that, he'd be lynched.
If the Mayor didnt want to use the busses , why didnt he at least move them to higher ground? When the Air Force hears of a storm coming the first thing they do is fly out the planes to a safer location. This mayor didnt even do that. I would almost bet his own car is underwater. Thats how dumb he seems to be.
Slow response... as in it did not arrive before Katrina hit. And aid not enough...as in every displaced New Orleanean should be given a new condominium in Texas.Celebrities (as in Jolie, etc.) were also quick to slam the Bush's administration's delayed response and inadequate aid. How could they know more aid wasn't forthcoming? And were they with the President all this time and knew for a fact that he had not organized his response and begun mobilizing federal agencies when he should?
Just read the AP article about President Bush's trip today by Jennifer Loven. The bitc& deliberately misrepresents what Bush said. She was totally careful to NOT misquote him but she attributes here OWN words to President Bush. She is basically lying and COMPLETELY misrepresents what he ACTUALLY said. Basically she is claims "Bush accepts fault for hurricane response" Read the article and EVERYTHING she blames Bush for, and claims he promised to fix soonest, are OUT SIDE HIS AUTHORITY! They are the RESPONSIBLITY of the local and state officials. Bush CANNOT send in the Army in to restore order because of Posse Comitatus. The Gov of Lousisana has to order the National Guard in or ASK the President for regular army troops. The DNC slut Loven is basically writing DNC propaganda as a AP News report
I heard a caller today say that she and her husband just donated all the money they'd saved to go visit her children, and then she hears idiots like JJ et al. complaining about whiteys not caring.
She rightly stated that it just makes people NOT WANT TO DONATE to mad dogs that will bite your hand when you reach out with food.
If he wants to make "his people" even more miserable, let him and his dem friends continue this foolish talk and the funds will dry up quick. The First Black President will have to lean on his hollyweird friends to round out the funding........
L French thing don't you know. JJ study your herstory.
did he really say that?
