President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Did you hear Blanco at one of her pressers last week. A reporter asked her about the toxic soup water condition and she blankly looked at him and said "It's just water, from the storm and rain, what do you mean"?

I think back to all those debates I watched of her and Jindal and how stupid she was and am still so amazed she got elected.

The White House has repeatedly asked the Times Picayunne to racant, but they have not.

Just exactly where is the Times Picayunne now? I thought there were evacuated from New Orleans. Guess they can print lies anywhere.....

Isn't Celine from Canada? France?

Celine Dion was born into a large French-Canadian family in 1968, the youngest of fourteen children.

I'm familiar with those amphibious "Moby Duck" tours -- they have them where I used to live in Massachusetts. I wondered why they didn't try to use them in the rescue effort, hmm...

I have an idea.

What about a thread dedicated to first hand accounts and maybe second hand (such as accounts of relatives and friends) of freepers who have been personally affected by the hurricane and its aftermath?

I know that some of these stories have been posted here and there. But a thread dedicated to first and reliable second hand accounts would be a virtual memorial, a place to read personal stories, and for those affected, a kind of catharsis maybe.

Just an idea.

Dr. Phil is going to the AstroDome on LKL! This is UNSEEMLY

On the other hand, for folks that watch TV all day, Oprah and Dr. Phil are the people they relate to. They'd much rather see them and sports and entertainment figures then any politician including the President.

Another nail in the coffin. Most Americans can clearly see the contrast between Bush's activity and the circus being thrown by Nagin, Blanco, and Landrieu. Really, Jesse Jackson's arrival on the scene told the American public all they needed to know about who to blame.
