President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

I hadn't heard those two ignorant people speak out previously. I guess they didn't hear that the Red Cross was barred from entering NO because it was too dangerous. This was as of Friday and their spokesman was on CNN that night explaining that little matter.

Somebody's gonna get fired over this -- This is CNN and they're not supposed to retract and correct a juicy article with potential use to attack Bush or somebody..

Bush administration tried to save face after its botched rescue plans left the city at the mercy of Hurricane Katrina.

I'm curious if anyone knows how many presidents have declared several areas disaster areas before a storm hits?

To: pitinkie; All

thanks for the heads up.

WHAT AN ASS!

The Mayor is a jerk and a looney.

If he really "loved" New Orleans he would step down.

60 Minutes IS HELPING COVER UP NAGIN'S INCOMPETENCE.

60 Minutes lies and people die.

Nagin was given a baby? Where? Is this an "algore inveted the internet" story?

When Nagin was bypassed results happened.

60 Minutes personifies the incompetence of the MSM.

LOL. They didn't have a choice because AP retracted the story.

I had such a sick feeling when I heard it was contractors that had been shot. I am so relieved it wasn't them but the evil thugs.

Yep. Funny how Mayor Nagin managed to find the time to escort Soctt Pelley of 60 Minutes around New Orleans to film his helicopter tour of New Orleans but couldn't find the time to release the buses to rescue people who were stranded.

How to expose them again? It is really urgent that we get ahold of this story- it's spinning into the danger zone.
