President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Would he be referring to what keeps being posted about NO/LA not being willing to pay the 50% with 50% matching federal funds like everyone else?

Other people have posted that the ratio was 15% local 85% fed or 20% local 80% fed.

Not to worry. A lot of student records end up going to the Federal Government "archives". Why? Most states CHOOSE to get Federal Funds for their schools. The schools, therefore, have to provide records and grades to the Feds.

I swear that was staged. It reminded me of Wrestling Bouts.
Big Bad police chief screaming down on Geraldo. And Geraldo just keeps saying face the camera.

Problem is outside the USA they are watching CNN and believe their crap. A canadian friend wrote me with a desperate email that I tried to answer; they don't understand our system where the President can't call in the calvary, so to speak... without the Governor asking for it.

Well someone has to do it, so I am watching the relief concert on NBC. Opened with Harry Conick and some jazz musicians.

Then yak, yak by Hillary Swank and piece on the storm. Now back to music, Tim McGraw singing about trusting in Jesus (yeah). Broken up by the touching Richard Gere.

Chilling story in the Australian

Sept 02,2005

AUSTRALIANS trapped in flood-ravaged New Orleans are in fear of their lives as the city descends into lawlessness.

Violence and racist behaviour had forced the group, including about 10 Australians, to take refuge in a hotel lobby after seeing people raped and murdered, he said.

"It's a real racist issue, apparently, between the locals, and they were segregated, and John said they would stab you as soon as look at you," Mr McNeil told ABC radio.

"He's never been so scared in his life. He just said they had to get out of the dark otherwise, another night, he said, they would have gone.

"He said the tension was just building so much it was impossible to stay in there."

Tim and Joanne Miller, from Rockhampton in Queensland, have also made contact with their family in Australia. They said they were too scared to move.

"The violence there is escalating. There are shootings – they've now got three dead bodies at the bottom of the stairwell where they are," their daughter Kelly-Rae Smith told ABC radio.

No Australians are missing and there are no reports of Australian deaths or injuries. Those stranded will be taken by bus to Houston, Texas.

The good thing is (I hope) they are safe now.

This..can't be happening. But it is.

Geraldo (admittedly on high-drama mode) is in the convention center....with an infuriated NOLA police chief..
and THIRTY THOUSAND people...

ALSO- FYI Bill will have (my personal favorite) Col David Hunt on after the ad to explain some more of those pesky FACTS to the American people.

By now they could have all WALKED out of NO don't ya think? Without water anyway and food so if they'd started walking they'd be ...well they'd be further north at least. Is that a crazy idea?

Geraldo and the NO Police Chief keep saying 6 days after the storm, and no relief. Let's see.... Monday morning landfall, then Tues, 1st day, Weds, 2nd day, Thurs, 3rd day, Fri (Today) 4th day.

I just want them to be accurate. The military just got there, after 4 days total. I'd be pissed if by Sunday (6th day) they weren't out of there, but let's see what happens tonight and tomorrow. I expect the busses soon.
