President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Agreed.

If the hysterics return, FOX goes off. I'll just tune back in later tonight for Hannity in that instance. I've seen enough of the supposed professional journalists acting worse then the people that lost everything.

Winnie Defender w/ the short bbl here, light collector up front. It's a pump but my Marine buddy came up with a bandolier of incendiary, AP (yes and yes), tracer, and other assorted loads for it.

Also, I inherited a 9mm, the 10 was for those who already have them.

I do believe I destroyed all that exotic 12 ga. ammo when the Fed's illegalized it... truly a shame.

;-)

You poor thing. I married a liberal the first time...and then converted him, but it took YEARS. It was pure hell before he converted, especially during the Clinton years.

Really cute photo. Thanks.

When I was watching CNN (very briefly before I got fed up and shut it off), the camera showed some peacefully sleeping black babies in a crib together in the Astrodome. It was a real AWWW moment. They were so sweet.

Yes, why hasn't George W Bush sent in hot air balloons? What's the dang delay! The poor in New Orleans are suffering because the Federal Government doesn't have a good enough Hot Air response!

"Do we have here at FR, Governor Blanco's two days of statements archived,"[snip]

I don't have those, but I just got the 30 minute news conference she gave this afternoon. I condensed it to an 11 MB .wmv video format and have it hosted for downloading. I don't want to post it here because it is so long it might hijack this thread, (not my style). I'll post it on my homepage and you can download it anytime.

the aerial shot of that levee break on CNN - the distance they have covered so far with the clean fill coming in by dump truck - they have a long way to go. the access road is so narrow, they can only get one dump truck and one small bulldozer on it. have they given up dropping the sand and concrete from the choppers?

10's are effective, but you better pack extra ammo for it, because you won't find any in the field.

If society has truly fallen apart, you can get 9mm ammo from the dead bodies of gangstaz (it's their caliber of choice), from Guard armories, from passing cops or abandoned copshops, from just about anywhere; it's also stupidly cheap to stockpile it. .45 is a little more scarce, but still common enough that resupply isn't that big an issue.
