President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

If you check out the Flood of 1927 you'll see that's what happened then. Up until then Blacks were predominately southern and Republican. The flood caused a massive black migration north. Hoover was elected on promises to fix their plight and found he did not have the resources he promised. The black community turned it's allegiance almost entirely to democRats ever since.

'criminally negligent homicide' would prolly be an easier sell to a grand jury.

No. As far as I can tell, the only thing he has done is issue press releases blaming Bush.

Thanks much. That is a little cheaper than buying the more expensive unit I found. Guess I'll trot over to Radio Shack ASAP. Hope they're still where they were. Businesses are relocating so fast I can't keep track any more.

I've YET to see anything about NBC parroting the success of last nights telethon. I wonder if the racist remarks last night had a negative effect?

I know. I told folks about it in this thread but was informed that it couldn't possibly be because it was deemed too dangerous.

I was just fixing the date/time NG arrived on scene with supplies via land route.

""Re Hastert: It's not what you say, it's when you say it."

Talk about bad timing, you would think a man in his position wouldnt be as foolish."

Lots of people developing severe cases of "foot-in-mouth disease" lately. At least Hastert hasn't hit the kool-aid jug like Vitter and some other RINO's.

Austin is sending cops, medics, and 50 city buses to NOLA to evacuate people. Yes, that's right, they're sending city buses. Don't be surprised to see buses that say "Capital Metro" on them showing up in NOLA shots soon.

The mayor of Austin gave a presser about his city's relief effort preparations that was carried on TXCN. It was an educational exercise to compare and contrast that session with the pressers the Mayor of Mudville gave before the disaster. The Austin mayor only had his city manager (a blonde woman dressed in denim shirt and jeans, who looked like she'd been working personally on the setup of the shelters) there and no additional entourage. The mayor himself was in shirtsleeves with loosened tie and open top button. He also appeared to actually have been working.

Anyone remember what Nagin looked like? :-D

That is great and I want to hear more of this talking --- but ---- Even tho it was a FoxNews interview ---- FoxNews ----- will continue to play up the negative talk regarding President Bush ----- ya know what I mean---

Geraldo said one person was shot in the head at the superdome. The guy was in the process of raping a 13 year old.

I wonder how the guy had the energy to rape anyone. Those people had been there 6 days (Geraldo's count, not mine) and had been w/o food and water the entire time.

This was just before he picked up the 15 month old baby, who by the way, looked pretty happy, and started screaming like Moses in The Ten Commandments, "Let these people go".

The 15 month old of course started screaming and crying. The absolutely poorest display of reporting I have ever seen.

Oh yeah, I saw Shep just before this and he was running a very close second to poorest reporting. His answer to any legit question, "I just don't know".

Perhaps that's the reason for the improved coverage. The first day or so I couldn't even watch FOX. Re-runs of a pre-taped O'Reilly Factor? Good grief!

And on top of that you would think the only area in NO that was in trouble is that darned overpass and the Super Dome.

I'm sorry to be the go-zillionth person to ask this, but could somebody please post the link for the disaster readiness kit? I'm about to make a run to Wal Mart and might as well get it started while it's fresh in my mind.

Perhaps Nauti could add it to the links in the header?

And yes, I did do a search, but I'm pretty crappy at it - my searches on FR always turn up empty.

They actually heaved them out of a helicopter, not out of an airplane. Unfortunately, the drop was quickly mobbed.

Yes, CNN was doing good reporting the first few days. I suspect that the "memo" went out from their new leftist chief producer to politicize this, Bush bad, blah, blah blah.

I'm back with Fox and they must have also gotten a memo because their reporting has improved greatly today.

Bye, bye CNN

LOL, that would make a great commercial against the DNC and their PR firms.

At this point I want to destroy them, reporter by reporter, corp, by corp, I want to ruin their reputations, lives, and livelihoods, as they do to others with impunity.

For the last 40 years.

Members demanded that all black voters not be allowed to escape their current election districts

Gotta give 'em credit - they've copped on very fast to the fact that every bus crossing into Orange TX is carrying 80 slave voters who they may never see again at the polls in Louisiana.

Delete 500 000 slave plantation voters and a RAT won't be able to get a cup of coffee in Louisiana, much less get elected to anything.
