President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WWL-TV New Orleans (via WFAA Dallas) - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. Yahoo has also provided a relay.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

They're still contemplating their navels and conducting polls.

The Red States are acting. The Big Red State is taking the lead. :-D

It has been shameful the way the reporters were trying to get them to break down and say that they felt like there was no hope. It was so un-American. You have to have positive thinkers around you or the depression rears it's nasty head. Like the people laying with blankets up to their nose and in a fetal position, Greta said she did not know what to do. Buy a clue Greta, and tell them it will get better.

"It looks like some gas has made it to Pensacola:
Some fuel finds its way to pumps"

As another sign of the gas problem easing in other areas..I noticed it dropped 10 cents near my home in Fort Worth. The 1st drop since Katrina.

"Fact: Nagin had busses go throughout the city offering transportation to those without it prior to the storm hitting
I would love to see proof of that. They did not go to any of the hotels and get the stranded tourist who's planes were counceled out."

The only thing I remember seeing/hearing about Nagin and busses was during his Saturday afternoon press conference (announcing the "evacuation"). He announced a number of collection points where people could be picked up and taken to the Superdome.

HDRs do not float and they must be airdropped at low altitudes, which you can't generally do over a city center.

I can't begin to predict what the shift will be; only that there will be one if the evacuees stay where they "land".

She won't fire him for slapping her around because he has credentials and friends in higher places.

He has no credentials other than being associated with the Clintons - he was the pinhead who, once placed in charge of FEMA in 1993, promptly botched its handling the Mississippi River floods in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois.

But you're right - she won't fire him because right now, she can't. Whether she likes it or not, the Clintons own her soul. Going to work for them is generally a one-way trip.

I'm sure the people of every state will help.

We just need the States to each take in about it's fair share (.5%).

We were historically very lucky to have a president with such clout in TX and FL.

Imagine Gore trying to handle this!

Our Houston-area refineries are now going full bore on ONE blend of gasoline. Economies of scale are driving prices down and volume UP.

Wonder where CA, NY, MA are?

I don't know about CA and NY, but there are many spots in RI and MA that have tractor trailer trucks in parking lots accepting donations for the hurricane victims. The RI Governor sent 150 NG MP's yesterday on 36 hours notice, half the time it usually takes to get mobilized.

"because of the statements made on TV about putting people in jail for spreading rumors"

If they're jailed for rumor spreading, a good portion of the LSM should be in jail about now.
