President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Is it possible to give this a rest? Please? It's getting old and annoying. We all need positive news, not continual complaining about these people, reports or not, that are in this situation.

Right now Geraldo is on Fox, grandstanding or not, but he is being very positive about the evacuation and that is what is needed.

Each person they get to the convention center has a better chance of being evacuated, then they did sitting of a roof somewhere. As I said yesterday, let's be grateful there are 20,000 waiting at the CC and not floating waiting for the bags.

Remember they do not have communications in NO and aren't able to watch CNN or FOX to get information.

I am stunned that the mayor, staying at the Hyatt Hotel, ordered 700 of his people removed from the hotel AHEAD of those living in the Super Dome.

The people in the Hywatt were dry and had food and water.

This is unacceptable and yet the media is not blaming him for ANYTHING.

where were you that this happened? even "Bush country" has alot of Dems in it. sure, people may have been "listeneing", but thinking "what a jerk this woman is".

I was in Johnson City, TN. These people vote straight Republican.

No, they weren't thinking she is a jerk. They clapped and cheered loudly for her and were telling me my loyalty to Bush is misplaced. Everyone was talking about BUSH throughout the break... Won't kick out the Mexicans, etc. Time for a change. Price of Oil... It wasn't pretty.

The woman was from Asheville, NC., btw, which is a tree-hugging town.

As a first responder, you should understand better than most that Geraldo is getting in the way of, and generally a distraction from the relief efforts.

Do you like the cameras and microphones jammed into your face when trying to move a mass of critical patients?

Geraldo is on now..having to tell how the chinooks, blackhawks and trucks are coming in and taken out...non-stop air armada...

Geraldo is positively gushing. Wonder if Fox got after him for trying to incite a riot last night?

FEMA DIrector Brown is having a presser on WWL. He is clearly in charge. The Dome is 95% evacuated. Honore is going throught the convention center. Amtrak is moving people out by train. Folks, the feds are clearly in charge now and taking care of business.

Please don't do that. Skip over my posts if you don't like them. I didn't get to discuss this frustration I had with Geraldo's piece last night after defending him just recently. I am now. I am glad, RDTF, that you are on here 24/7, and my news is old to you. But, it isn't to me.
