Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. Seeing our guys and gals in service ONCE again for their country truly brings tears to my eyes this morning - God Bless our Military
9:39 A.M. - FEMA Director Mike Brown: Nearly 4,000 people were airlifted out of New Orleans area yesterday. Approximately 25,000 people have been airlifted out to date. We've gotten out 95 percent of the people in the Superdome.
9:38 A.M. - Brown; The situation at the Convention Center is under control.
9:37 A.M. - Brown: Amtrak trains are now flowing out of the city with evacuees.
9:36 A.M. - Brown; Approximately 1,700 people in hospitals still need to be evacuated.
9:35 A.M. - Brown: We have 80,000 people in shelters in areas outside of the area.
9:35 A.M. - Brown: Three Carnival Cruise ships are going to be used for temporary housing. Zephyr Field will be used as a military hospital.
9:35 A.M. - Brown: Rescue workers are going house to house looking for survivors.
Just AWESOME!!
It was the President's Saturday address. Probably at the WH website.
Is it possible to give this a rest? Please? It's getting old and annoying. We all need positive news, not continual complaining about these people, reports or not, that are in this situation.
Right now Geraldo is on Fox, grandstanding or not, but he is being very positive about the evacuation and that is what is needed.
Geraldo is pumped now, a huge evac going on now at the convention center. hey, I know he's a grandstander. But I'll take any good news I can get at this point.
Looks to be a huge military mobilization within 24 hours of Bush's visit. Coincidence?
Each person they get to the convention center has a better chance of being evacuated, then they did sitting of a roof somewhere. As I said yesterday, let's be grateful there are 20,000 waiting at the CC and not floating waiting for the bags.
Remember they do not have communications in NO and aren't able to watch CNN or FOX to get information.
Amen to that one.
HA!
"Amazing scene...........our MAGNIFICENT military to the rescue.
Just AWESOME!!"
What's going on?... writing a sermon, procrastinating, but can't get to the TV
I am stunned that the mayor, staying at the Hyatt Hotel, ordered 700 of his people removed from the hotel AHEAD of those living in the Super Dome.
The people in the Hywatt were dry and had food and water.
This is unacceptable and yet the media is not blaming him for ANYTHING.
Do you like the cameras and microphones jammed into your face when trying to move a mass of critical patients?
Geraldo is positively gushing. Wonder if Fox got after him for trying to incite a riot last night?
FEMA DIrector Brown is having a presser on WWL. He is clearly in charge. The Dome is 95% evacuated. Honore is going throught the convention center. Amtrak is moving people out by train. Folks, the feds are clearly in charge now and taking care of business.
at the convention center? BurbankKarl was posting photos of the supplies brought in, they had food and water. medical and sanitary was another story.
Please don't do that. Skip over my posts if you don't like them. I didn't get to discuss this frustration I had with Geraldo's piece last night after defending him just recently. I am now. I am glad, RDTF, that you are on here 24/7, and my news is old to you. But, it isn't to me.
