President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

I really think that when things cool down, people will realize the problems stem from an appalling lack of leadership at the local level. The mayor and governor have blood on their hands.

Doesn't anyone know why the buses stopped running at the Dome?? The AP articles said they suddenly stopped running, with 2000 left at the dome. How many more people left at the convention center, and on the overpass??

Why can't they get these people out?? They should just move them out by any transport means because otherwise it just feeds the MSM and black politicians' rants that the operation is racist.

I don't know why my post came up blank. I actually did type an answer.

Mike is a light weight and I'm never too impresed with him, but I can handle him better than Julian.

"Anybody watching Fox and Friends? "

I was for a while, but got disgusted and am watching "Ask This Old House" on A&E -- dip back into F&F every once in a while during commercials, just to see if anything important is happening.

Believe me, as far as "piling on" goes, F&F doesn't hold a candle to Oreilly, H&C, and Greta last nite -- worse than CNN and MSNBC because this strikes me as treason to our cause.

Hope you are right but the MSM has already started the spin that it's the Feds fault.

The reason the buses stopped last night was that the NG needed security from the Louisiana State Police or law enforcement in loading the buses.

But there LSP was awol.

Take a look at last nights scanner reports.

Thanks. I didn't know. Doesn't the military provide security?? Why do they need the LSP?

Julian was right. It does need to be discussed. He is supposed to be a journalist and a journalist should have a responsibility to get to the truth of a story or public issue. He should have stood up and insisted that they discuss it. He should have pushed them to investigate whether it is a fact that George Bush actually doesn't like black people or that it is a poisonous lie that is spread by an anti-Bush liberal Democratic media. He should have said what he really thinks, instead of cowering behind political correctness. People continue to absorb these lies because they are not challenged. Julian obviously believes that Bush is a rascist, but he doesn't have the balls to stand up and say it, instead choosing to insinuate it and allow the rest of the crew to steer the conversation away in fear. These things have to be confronted or they will persist.

A presser with Landrieu and Vitter is on WWL-TV now. Mary Landrieu looks like a high school girl who's just discovered she won't make the cheerleading squad.

Yep, it would be nice if we were dealing with "reasonable" people - I do not understand for the life of me just how the mayor & gov are getting a free pass. We learned last night that the Red Cross was told not to come to NO. At the time the storm hit, the gov had 6500 NG at her disposal and did not use them.

All politics is local. The people of NO are learning this the hard way.

Governor and Mayor are positions not to take lightly. I fear these peple got what they elected.
