for the Gulf Coast needs..why can't they bring in some of the things by amphibious landing from the Navy?
The beach access isn't like trying to navigate the Miss River.

I believe that the Navy is bringing a couple of Amphib ships down from Norfolk -- if I count days correctly, they should be on-scene tomorrow or the next day.

Just my vague recollection from a solid week of overlapping stories, FWIW

The first amphibious assault carrier is currently supporting New Orleans from the sea. The second assault carrier is due in today, IIRC - it will support the rest of the coast.

We'd have more, but Klinton destroyed our amphibious landing ship fleet. In addition, navigation close to shore is now an unknown quantity after Katrina.
