President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

The reasoning of a Democrat is this: The Feds are all powerful and bureaucracy got in the way of saving lives. The National Guard were waiting for someone to tell them to act and did not ask anything about their orders because they had no interest. President Bush had the power and resources the locals did not and he did not act because he does not like blacks. How do I know all of this? Because I heard it on Nightline.

you need only look at the (D) after their names to know why.

if NO had not flooded, I think the MSM would have already moved on from this story - if it were only MS and AL that were hit.

I am one of those houston people and my husband and I contamplated it, but we cannot feel comfortable enough to offer our home to the refugees as of yet. Neither of us are home during the day and you just don't know. True we have to protect our own first and foremost. I am scared to death some of my neighbors will bring some of the bad ones in.

Can you tell me if the I 10 overpass Shep reported from so much, going WEST, connects to 90 WEST & then on to Houma ??

you can, sorta via backroads and hwys. the 10 doesnt go directly to Houma no The preferd route is via the 310 which runs from the 10 back towards metairie and back towards laPlace and then south and west to Houma.

Then take out your frustration and email all the jerk commentators. I've sent more emails this week than since the election.

Louisiana only issues a rear license plate.

Oops, didn't know that. Too used to California that requires them front and back - makes it easier to photograph for red light violations (grr...)

A full gas tank is another top priority in the hurricane prep list, along with water - to last at least three days. You say your folks used up their fuel driving back into the devastated area--and I'm not sure why that is the government's fault they don't have gasoline there now.

Good. It's time for the chief whiners to pitch in and help, but they are a few days late.

Last time I was at a football game there between the Oilers/Steelers, it was very hot in there and the a/c didn't seem to be working right.

Buildings like the Dome create their own weather systems. I have seen it actually drizzle inside when the A/C was out of balance with the humidity.

According to the link above, the crash was most likely caused by the same passenger who was killed.

Fascinating. Somebody wanted to be on his own, not taken to another dome. I wonder, just curious, about the person's long-term plans. Good guy snapped? Or bad-guy looking for new turf?

Sister's a 20+ year PE Civil....evac'd from NOLA Friday with consultant gear in a truck.

The Causeway has pre-fabbed sections ready for replacement use all the time for when "drunk" or "sleeping" tugboats hit that one.

Yes but my 6 year old son is smart enough to have a better plan in place than this State has had if I told him what would happen to the city in case of a MEDIUM to large hurricane.
