President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

WWL- Interviewed a New Orleans Cop last night that threw down his badge and quit...

Said officers were dying, and they had no orders or support..

Trucking company claimed they lost 2 drivers that were trucking FOOD into New orleans...

Coast Guard choppers took fire...Etc,etc,etc...

Ambulances hijacked and drivers beaten...

And those are just the ones

I agree and some attempts were made, they just didnt know where to drop everything. The FEMA or NG guy didnt even know about the convention center till yesterday..the locals dropped the ball..apparently it was not a designated shelter but broken into and used by the displaced persons..There was no command and control in NO there should have been a checklist from the NOPD as to where people were at to make sure they were supplied. No leadership no initiative..I know if I was a cop my superiors would have known about it and I would have kept checking till they were supplied...supposedly 100 cops did try to get in there last night but were rebuffed by thugs and only made it in this morning with help from the NG...

The chief of police did say they had no food and water and if you scroll down 10 posts from the pic I showed you you can see the food and water..it was an outright lie...

I just saw a hit piece on Nightline. Played the race card heavily. What a joke that show has been for so very long.

I doubt these people realize they are being taken care of by Red staters

Some do. Foxnews interviewed a refugee earlier who couldn't say enough about the kind people of Texas and kept thanking God he was alive and being so well cared for. Doubt we'll see him on any other station anytime soon.

The media is salivating for a story like that. They just can't wait. How I despise them all.

In the end .. the will lose just like they always do

You nailed it. And all the other states that aren't whining. God bless Gov. Barber.

I'm telling you right now these idiots are sure lucky I am not President. I would have placed the NO mayor and LA Governor in an undisclosed location and declared full martial law in NO. Bush has tried to stay withing the constitution and has been savaged for doing so and I am fed up with it. I'm telling you right now that this may be the end for Bush since the GOP is about to run for cover. The American people have no idea what is about to happen to our economy and the war in Iraq. The American people are about to be tested like never before and from what I can see we are not up to the task.

FEMA never gives press conferences like that while rescue is in progress. THEY'RE TOO BUSY RESCUING PEOPLE.

The only people giving press conferences every four hours is the useless LA state officials. You don't see the MS or AL people doing that.

Finally! Someone else noticed Shep does not have a beard and his face is clean shaven!

I think all the media's have choppers down there, to film & also transport their employees around.

During some of the Coast Guard rescues were taking place I remember a reporter telling the cameraman "zoom in" & then explained air space was restricted during the rescues.

Also this I 10 overpass connects to 90 west to Houma (40 miles).

For the reason that Fox had a single chopper for him (that's my *assumption*) and/or a boat to ferry him across from the ramp to the Dome

And no room to bring food or water with them? And no way for them to find the authorities and tell them where they were? Instead they get on TV and shout like hysterical children when the authorities were obviously NOT watching TV, they were too busy trying to save lives.

You mean all the tanker trucks that are currently being used to shuttle fuel to some of the affected areas for the search and rescue crews to use?

Helicopters and trucks run on fuel, not water.

Yankee stadium clears out 55000 every nite in NYCtraffic

55,000 people exit the stadium ans take either public transit or personal vehicles to their homes or other destinations. Now, except for the public transportation, personal vehicles and homes to go to, your analogy works.

Lots of people are willing to help out. You may want to get on the phone tommorrow and see if there are any gas station owners who know a company who would be willing to do this. I'm sure local churches and charities would be able to get the money together or maybe the gas company would give it away. Sometimes people/companies aren't aware of these situations until they are told about it. It is people such as yourself who take these challenges and help people who are going to be the unsung heroes of this tragedy. FEMA, the Red Cross, all of them, have their hands full. Good luck to you :-)

"there are enough media members at the key locations around town so that if they got this information out, people could be informed."

The people who need to hear the info have NO WAY OF HEARING THE PRESS CONFERENCES. They have no electricity, the local radio stations aren't operating or transmitting.

If you'll recall, there WAS a FEMA exercise last year that included looting and unrest by the inner-city population...

Media went nuts over it, and someone lost his job for "Racial Insensitivity"

Please post that as a new thread. I've been looking for reference to that drill since last night when someone brought up the lack of FEMA's planning for civil unrest.

"That would be fine if that was where the trucks were coming from. I guess they should have asked you where to stage the supplies, then they could have avoided all the traffic."

Sorry - I ain't biting - if a 20 year old that never drove a bus can take one full of victims and be the first one to the Superdome, something is F'ed up.

The govt screwed up on this one
