President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

Who are you insulting? Better save a post like that for an email. The complaining and cynicism is really getting getting ridiculous.

I just heard on the local news that the gas lines should be history by next week because we'll have plenty of gas. Thanks, Texas!! (and everywhere & everyone else who is working to supply our needs)

We had that report about Gulfport from a FReeper the other evening saying there were numerous bodies in trees when the waters receded. Also a report of many NG and refrigerated trucks going to Mississippi for body retrieval. They are now announcing just 150 dead in that state, but that number is grossly underreported.

He did what he had to do to save people. He'll like it here in Texas, I suspect.

And if LA has a problem with him borrowing a bus to do what their governor and the NO mayor wouldn't do, we'll give them the bus back - but we'll keep him. He's too good to be forced to go back there.

How hard would it be to deliver MRE's, bottled water, and maybe baby formula from helicopters?

Why do you ridicule this important information.

I ridicule them because they've both broken a couple of the Cardinal Rules of "journalism" (if there is such a thing anymore).

Both clowns, along with Drama Queen Shepard Smith have injected themselves INTO the story, and both clowns, along with Drama Queen Shepard Smith have decided to BECOME the story.

...hope that clears it up.

Didn't Linda have another baby not too long ago? Perhaps on maternity leave? (Hope she'll be back, I like her!)

FEMA is supposed to have plans to evacuate an entire american city

No. But, I was hoping that our mighty federal government could have at least gotten water to thousands of naked, dying people stranded in the street in 95-degree heat within four days.

I am still waiting to hear about the firefighters and families holed up in the Bellsouth building in (can't remember name of town..I want to say Chalfonte, or something French-sounding). Snipers keep shooting at them whenever they try to leave.

Why aren't NG guys over there helping them yet?

What a terrifying situation.

So because they had no airline flights, they were supposed to take their chances on dying at their hotels in a CAT 5?

He did tell those who had to stay in hotels to stay at the 3rd floor or higher.

Problem came to be that the thugs took over the city, and the authorities lacked the force necessary put down the gangs.

We have created this kind of journalism though. We want drama and emotion in our journalism. Truth yeah, but we tune in with human interest stories and tune out boring rote drab reporting.
