President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WOW, 20 year old kid went to the School Yard and "looted a bus" to take people to Houston. Never drove a bus before.

Sheesh... give Shep and Geraldo a break... Shep's been there since near the beginning, and has to be stressed out to the max. Geraldo just had a baby, so it's completely understandable why seeing suffering babies is pushing him over the edge.

All the more reason for them to leave NOW and let's go back to the reporters who initially covered the story without the showmanship and fanfare.

indeed, Blanco is the #1 cause of this. I've been saying for 2 days now, was it on purpose? did the DNC tell her to hold back on maintaining civil order, so FEMAs job would be harder and they could turn it on Bush? the DNC is certainly capable of this.

Let me get my tin-foil hat. Durn; that didn't help. I still can't put that past them.

72 hours of pleading and begging people to get the hell out is not enough warning??? Should they have started in June?

72 hours was the ideal time frame. The New Orleans officials didn't make a definite decision until time was running out. They didn't give the people 72 hours to evacuate!!

I disagree, totally. I think it's another word, cowardice. The cowardice of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Six Pack to slam back at the institutionalists twice as hard.

When Texas has Jessee Jackson on site for a few weeks demanding constant things, accusing Texans of being racists, shaking down the state of Texas,,,you might be sorry.

JJ aint gonna shake down Texas,,,,,he'll get mobbed, these cowboys don't play.

I think I can agree with that type of looting.

Honestly, considering looking at the bus picture and the diesel and oil slick, I am amazed any of them ran

Foxnews changed their cover page and the only e-mail I found was viewer comments. Do you have an e-mail address to H&C or The Factor?

In a good news story, Greta has a guy on who commandeered a bus so that he could get people out of New Orleans. He had never driven a bus before.

The Governor has been in Baton Rouge. She went to the New Orleans International Airport in Kenner to meet with President Bush this afternoon.

The Mayor is likely in New Orleans. (As he should be). He hasn't been getting the same TV face time as the Baton Rouge contingent, only speaking on the radio. And he claims he's been all over the city.

Thanks for the report. God be with you.

On another note, would people from the affected area come up to Sioux Falls for a time of putting their lives back together. I am thinking I could be renting some apt.s and houses or something like that if people would come. Gas is $3.00 + but life is good and work available.

I listened to Scarborough long enough to hear him say that his "Republican friends that voted for George Bush have been calling all day"...saying how upset they are that their guy George W. Bush has screwed this up so bad!!!!

I turned it immediately....for Scarborough who WAS a congresscritter, to so blatantly blame Bush,....and use the "anonymous friends" line to make it sound like all Reps in Washington blame Bush also...it is disgusting!!!

I wonder if Scarborough ever served in the military to understand how things work....

BTW...there were two convoys from Fort Worth last night, heading south, with a police escort...and the don't drive 75!!!!! Those big ole trucks drive pretty slow...

I absolutely think this is the worst display of MEDIA BLOVIATING I have ever seen for any story!!!!

Greta came so close to hitting on a major point when she was interviewing the man who took the bus from a busyard in New Orleans. She asked him where he got the bus from and he responded "from a busyard". If only she would have asked "How many buses were left there?"

Look. If those people behind Geraldo takes his advice and just takes off down the road then the women and kids will in a hell of a lot more misery than if they stay put. It is really obvious that there are thousands of able bodied men in all of those locations that are incapable of getting their act together and restoring calm themselves and throwing out the trouble makers. Also, what in the hell happened to women, children and elderly first? There shouldn't be one able bodied male on any bus out of there untill all of the kids, women and elderly are out.
