President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

As far as I know he is.
As for Kanye West, his statement is not uncharacteristic of him. He makes music and social commentary all the time.
It's only a shock to those who don't know anything about him.

No, but hysteria from the reporters can make it worse in the convention center.

And it still remains we can only do so much to rescue people. It's easy to sit here and say get it done, but that follows the assumption people aren't working as hard as possible to reach everyone.

The simple harsh truth is they chose to stay, the Governor and mayor were incompetant, and these are the consequences. We aren't superheros that can snap fingers and restore and rescue in seconds.

well, why AREN'T those people allowed to walk there? Because it's dark?

There are numerous reports that government agents forbid the motion. I think, in aggregate, the reports present credible evidence of that. Authorities are controlling the outflux. They are limiting personal initiative.

And when the system has that nature, bad things will happen - the authorities must believe that worse things will happen if they permit uncontrolled outflux.

Good news and bad news...I did add the Southern Baptists to this thread. However, I failed to insert a break, so the info is hanging way out there immediately following the National Black Home Educators Resource Association. mea culpa

this is now a national disgrace to have people dying in the streets of an AMERICAN city. I cannot stomach the thought of children dying or being raped. Let stop talking about whether or not these reporters are grandstanding or not. The important thing is the people who are DYING before our eyes. Get it?

I got it. They're dying at the hands of Americans, too. Americans that do not care about their fellow man. Mere parasites. I've got it alright.

``Nightfall brings gangs of armed thugs who ransack every house. They are protecting their home with a shotgun and are terrified.

My nephew, the New Orleans policeman finally got a call out to his sister in Boston at 4:30 this morning. He said that he had been running all over the city chasing looters. One of his uncles my husband's sister's husband stayed in his uptown New Orleans house. As far as we know uptown New Orleans was not flooded but his phone stopped working a few days ago. My nephew has been told he is there and will check on him. I am not surprised at all that there are armed thugs rampaging through homes in the better neighborhoods. The better neighborhoods uptown are often only a few blocks away from really bad neighborhoods. Those who have been to New Orleans know this is true, unusual I guess, but the reality of New Orleans. I have not seen much reporting about what is going on in Uptown New Orleans, has anyone else? This is the University area and the area around Audubon Park.

That was over the top. However, in this case, I can sympathize.

he doesn't have a dog in the fight. HE WAS around people who do. Who have NO where to go.

But go ahead and criticize. After all you are just another internet jackass on an internet forum and not actually there.

That gives you ALL THE RIGHT, RIGHT?

I think Geraldo must have found an abandoned meth lab after he got to NO. Please Fox - evacuate him and Shep and just set up a cam. I have had my tv on mute for the last 45 minutes. Think I will put some Ray Charles music on and see if I can get the cork out of a bottle of red wine. Staying with FR of course.

On the Huffington site. Is this guy a well known civil rights leader? Drudge describes him as a civil rights leader.

Shep is living in a reality that none of us can even imagine right now. Good grief, he's only a human being.

Shepard Smith is no saint. He admitted yesterday that he wouldn't give his water to the people who were starving because he needed it.

FNC needs to get rid of the drama queens and leave the reporting to the professionals like Steve Harrigan.

Bastardi clearly stated "they did not dodge a bullet" and then he explained for the thousandth time that raising pressue by 4 mb and pulling to the east does not mean everyone should stay.
Hell, the entire thread on FR that morning would have put TWC to shame it was so scientific.

"When you reach this point, as you've described right now? Go for a walk. Go watch an engaging movie. Do a chore you've put off doing but which needs to be done.

Get those MSM and Lib-Dem stresses out of your body, and your mind. Come back, refreshed. Strengthened."

Thanks! ....great advice. I had a lot of things planned for today, and instead, I've been here reading all day and watching reports on TV...not good. Tomorrow's another day.....gettin' outta here. Have a good one!
