President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

All i can say is "just let them keep talking". They have given themselves just enough rope.....oops i'm using very inappropriate analogies today. Earlier i said "the mayor of N.O. isn't fit to shine Rudy Giuliani's shoes".

He's part owner of our basketball team - the Cleveland Cavs - and folks are thrilled that there's young blood in ownership around here.
They also like Gilbert, but Usher is tha man!

"The Geraldo tread was just pulled. Geraldo is making the point. This is utter BS. Those people, those babied, those kids are going to die. This is a disgrace!"

I agree - and I agree with the reporters that it's absolutely incomprehensible why those people haven't been given any relief at all.

So some of you people are complaining that the reporters are doing their job instead of helping dying people, while others of you are complaining that they're being too emotional about the dying people, and not doing their job. Sheesh... give Shep and Geraldo a break... Shep's been there since near the beginning, and has to be stressed out to the max. Geraldo just had a baby, so it's completely understandable why seeing suffering babies is pushing him over the edge.

I don't understand why everyone's packed up for the day and gone home ("the curfew"... huh?!) .. If the roads are passable, why aren't there ENDLESS convoys of buses, trucks and helicopters getting those people out of there?

The reporterette from Fox News just mentioned the (functional) airport was 10 miles from the business district of New Orleans... well, why AREN'T those people allowed to walk there? Because it's dark? Because of the snipers?

That it's taking too long.

That it's because they're black.

Or any of the other stuff the press has been spreading.

I agree; I just sent an email to H&C and told them so. Shep and Geraldo are making fools of themselves, and H&C as well by showing their stupid comments and coverage.

"People love being cynical about this, but I won't. I can't imagine what those National Guard troops are going into."

I don't believe that what I'm watching Shep and Geraldo are do are helping the National Guard troops. Geraldo is trying to incite a riot, which is not helping the situation.

Bingo. You have it nailed. I am no fan of Geraldo but I don't think Shep Smith is a shill. A lot of former FOX fans are suddenly upset and "their" network because it isn't harping on "Good news in New Orleans." I suspect if these emotional reporters were trying to put a good face on the situation, they'd be praised here for their sensitivity.

O'Reilly did a good job tonight of extracting the information from Shep and Geraldo, who are understandably emotional on the scene, and relayed it in a constructive manner to help move the situation forward, and to a better place.

Fair point. However, if a reporter can't remain calm and professional, he or she is worse than useless. First rule in any crisis is not to lose your head! If Shep and Rivera have lost it, then FOX needs to pull them out.

You're absolutly right! They are now making the news instead of reporting the news.

People are more upset that gas is >$3/gallon.

What I'm POed about is that we don't have the refineries or the oil wells to prevent that $3/gallon gas.

HELP!

I'm at dialup at home and no scanner feeds work. Does anyone have links to a "slow" or adaptable stream for scanners?

Should I go back to employer's and stay on the T1 line?

I have FR and satellite out here but one network is hysteria-land and the others tell me that it's all Bush's fault.

I'm calling both satellite providers to see if they can dump feeds on an empty channels.

BTW: Our Slidell evacuees left their two beautiful daughters here(4 and 7) while they went back to get "proof" of their homelessness, see what's left in 2 feet of water, and file local insurance with a relative...and then they're probably off to Kansas next week for a new life. Local "Helping Hands" gave 'em a ton of new/used clothes since they now have none.
