Just heard Blanco finaly comandeered the states school buses to evac what is left of NO.
We were pretty lucky, I have no idea how but we never lost electricity - even during the height of the storm. Aside from the normal flooding and trees down, our only inconvenience was not having water for 3 days.
We stock water in our garage so drinking/dishes was not a problem for me or the animals but no shower/bath for 3 days was a bit uncomfortable.
Glad to hear you came through the storm with little problems. We are really blessed compared to Katrina's wrath on the gulf coast.
Governor and Mayor of NO are well GROSSLY INCOMPETENT would be an insult to grossly incompetent people everywhere... I don't even know what word would describe these two....
These fools are making Carter look competent.
Mayor of NO let his couple of hundred busses sit in the lot and get flooded.
Didn't use them for evacuation before the storm.
They surely could of hit high ground in 48 hours. They as free people, living on the surface of this planet made a conscious decision, weighing the risks involved and chose to stay. Free people have the right to decide their fate. The government may suggest you leave your house, but they cant force you. People who decide to stay, also have an advantage over those who flea, in that they are able to protect their property from looters and do not have to wait for permission to return.
Do you have ANY clue as to the geography of Louisiana? Apparently not. They would walk for two days and be out in the open in a major hurricane. That's really friggin' brilliant. Are you sure you ain't one of the disaster planners that used to work for New Orleans?
OUCH, that is going to leave a mark.
We reallyneed network reporters accompanying the travellers on these busses, telling us how horrid the conditions are...reporting every vomit...and how these people are being forced to live in such squalid conditions because Bush couldn't get their end-of-the month checks earlier to them, and so they had to wait for them, and that kept them bound and tied to the Washbowl.
[Now mind you, I'm not downplaying the conditions inside the Super Dome...but the conditions inside there are a tad bit better than a good chunk of the Third World or rebel-infested Civil Wars in some countries...and I don't see reporters freaking out over those conditions...Nor has the violent crime rate necessarily gone up in NO...actually, it may be lower than an average Summer night...and certainly the overall immorality rate may actually have plummeted in NO...but if you're expecting perspective from the Mainstream Media, don't hold your breath]
Once out of the city, they could get help. It's not like they would have to stay out side.
Are you sure you ain't one of the disaster planners that used to work for New Orleans?
How can any one get out of bed in the morning without assistance from the Federal Government?
We are supposed to have a limited government, not a government responsible for every action we take.
No I am not a disaster planner, one sure sign of stupidness would be to be totally dependent on government disaster planners.
They are disaster planners in order to get a government pension.
Actually doing the job is far down the list.
Depending on Government Disaster planners, is as foolhardy as depending on the government to do something as simple as time traffic lights, and even that is beyond their ability.
So who would in their right mind depend upon a government that cant even make a couple of lights in a row blink properly, for taking care of their every need after a major storm?
Now THERE'S Leadership, by golly! Damn, I'm impressed.
