NEW ORLEANS The situation in New Orleans was nearing rock bottom Friday as thousands of National Guardsmen armed with food, water and weapons streamed into the hurricane-ravaged city to bring relief to the suffering multitudes and take back the streets from the looters and armed vigilantes.

It appears, finally, that things are moving forward.
Now, if they would just whack a few of these looters, things would really be on their way.
Just a guess.
These "armed vigilantes" should be given a bounty for every looter shot.
That is how warped we have become. We care more about a person defending himself than the person robbing, killing, looting, etc.
In other words, when the government does nothing they complain, and when the government takes control, they complain louder.
Unfortunately the democrat party holds power by keeping these communities semi-civlized and dependent.
Yeah, but they're "undocumented vigilantes"...
"Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search) called the looters "hoodlums" and issued a warning to lawbreakers: Hundreds of National Guard troops hardened on the battlefield in Iraq have landed in New Orleans.
"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," she said. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."
Oh.....I'd like to slap this stupid woman silly.
SHE is the one who must give the order shoot to kill and SHE is still passing the buck now to Guardsmen.
"...and take back the streets from the looters and armed vigilantes."
The vigilantes will stop their patrols when the looting has stopped and New Orleansians simply return to the old days of raping and murdering.
In most states, lethal force is not authorized to protect property, only life and limb. I think that precept is pretty much out the window in NOLA right now
The situation will get better in a few days:
"At least one critical breach in the New Orleans levee system will be repaired by the end of the day Thursday, but a second section will take longer because workers are having trouble getting equipment and material to that part of the swamped city, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.
Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, commander of the Army Corps of Engineers, told reporters that a large breach in the 17th Street Canal levee in New Orleans should be filled in Thursday, the first in what will be a long and costly effort to repair the city's levee system.
"Once we seal those two places, that should stop the water from going in," said Strock. "Our real focus right now is getting the flow stopped so we can get in and drain the city."

Do you mean it is unreasonable to be in fear for your life when you are sitting in your house and an armed gang of thugs enters without permission?
Start taking left ears. Left to 'honor' failed social programs.
Gee Mayor, what about all the city buses and school buses from NO. How about doing something other than complaining.
They are prosecuting our soldier for fighting a war in some circumstances; I expect our brave and honorable troops will somehow come off as bad guys in New Orleans...perhaps the ACLU will file some lawsuits on behalf of the "victims" who were abused by our troops (who were trying to help) in this sorry situation.
I prefer to think of them as "undocumented law enforcement officers."
"No bag limit"
