Maybe Mayor Nagin would like to explain this picture before he and the rest of his democratic fellow travelers continue to blast the fed's.

An aerial view of flooded school buses in a lot, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, in New Orleans, LA. The flood is a result of Hurricane Katrina that passed through the area last Monday.(AP Photo/Phil Coale)

For Gods sake they should be using trucks, busses, anything that can roll out of town.

After the storm had passed they could have used huge barges "floating" the refugees up in the Mississippi river!!!

"They used city buses to move people inside of the city, not out of the city."

Howlin flat out said that you were wrong, and that they were used to shuttle the citizenry OUT of the city before Katrina hit.

So where are they now? Especially given the very tenuous situations at The Doom Dome and The Convention Coop? Many people are fairly VERY poorly at this point.

YES. Outfits like Swift Trucking must have a google units. Cut some windows in the sides for ventilation, throw in some cushions, blankets, water, and GO.

Looks like there are 200+ buses sitting uselessly in the flood waters. If the dipstick Mayor and Governor had mobilized ALL available buses in southern LA (there must be many hundreds more, if not thousands) on Sat. and Sun. they could have evacuated tens of thousands of people, at least.... but that would require a few drops of foresight, gumption, and common sense.

In addition, what about all the public transportation and city buses as well, hmmmm???

The whole NO thing reminds me of the story where the guy dies and goes to Heaven and blame God that he did NOT sent any help after he had turned down help from a helicopter and he then drowned on the roof of his house!!!

And who's to blame for that illiterate headline?

The responsibility for that, my dear long time lurker, is mine and mine alone . . .

Sure does! That themed story has been around awhile. QUITE applicable here. I never heard that version, but hadn't remembered the one I knew.

The one I heard went something like this, but it involved a truck but is easily modified:
Man kept praying for help....as in, "God, please send me an air-conditioned bus to get out of here!" A/C bus doesn't make it, man dies. He gets to heaven as asks God, "What happened?"

God said something like, "I couldn't send the air conditioned bus because they were already in use doing (some good deed), but I sent a school bus! Why didn't you use it?!"

Nice compilation of quotes from NYT.

I watched a program on PBS last night, (amazing how fast they put it together!) on the disappearing delta of the Mississippi and how that marshland is meant to be the natural barrier to protect LA from hurricane forces. With massive loads of money, a man-made system of "reverse levees" (my words) can direct some the annual flooding of the MS back onto the land to deposit the silt that now is sluicing straight to the deep water of the Gulf of Mexico.

However! At the end of the 20 min presentation, after all this talk of reverting to mother nature, they said that "the Bush Administration has cut the funding by 90% for reclaiming wetlands. The COE asked for $78 milion to Maintain the pumps of New Orleans - that were designed to handle rainwater, not river flood! - and the Bush admin cut this request by half. This admin and others before it did not do enough."

We must slap down the "Bush admin cut" every time we hear it. If the Bush admin gave half of a requested amount, then "the Bush admin Gave $39 million dollars to the city of New Orleans for pump improvements."

This was the first time I ever heard what the functional capability of the NO pumps were designed to be.

Yes, that is what I remember. They took people to the SD and other 'refuges of last resort'. As far as I know, public transportation WAS NOT USED for evacuation.

"Mayor failed. Governor does not appear to have put the National Guard on alert prior to the storm. Both of them sat on their butts and waited for the feds to do it all.."

They were in denial that this huge storm would track their way. Let the good times roll and all that jazz.
