Refugee Alan Gould spoke to CNN from inside the New Orleans Convention Center. He said sick, eldery and children are dying and children have been beaten and raped. He pleaded for help.

I echo the words of a previous poster on this thread, when an evacuation order hits your area, get far away. Far, far away.
Used to be that disasters brought out the best in Americans. Now it brings out the worst. Then again, America is a much different nation than it was 40 years ago. Looking at footage of New Orleans over the past few days, it looks more like Mogadishu or Bangladesh than America.
Animals. No need for that.
Get the people who are not doing all the mayhem out of there and then corodon off the area and let the animals doing all the criminal behavior fend for themselves. Eventually they will be gone so they would not infect any city they would be moved to.
As the entire world watches and collectively says, "You have the moral authority to tell us how to live?"
We are seeing the result of 40 years of welfare, which destroys the incentive to work, self-reliance, and family. I see many women holding babies but no fathers in sight. If there is someone to blame, I point my finger at pro-welfare democrats who created the monster that we are seeing on TV.
They would do this to the entire country if given half a chance.

If I didn't know this article was about Katrina, I'd have thought it was an article out of inner city Oakland, CA. With good people screaming to be helped and kept safe from gangstas, pedophiles, etc. In the 90s, decent people in Oakland, CA were beginning for help against criminals which had taken over the streets. And these residents were being targeted by thugs for speaking up. It was normal for children to learn to sleep and play below the level of gunfire. And no natural disaster precipitated this type of "living".
Some woman at the Superdome was complaining that she had only had MREs to eat "no hot meals in four days, just army food, army food, army food, it's terrible food" and "nothing to drink except water, everyday it's water, water, water . . . always trying to give me water."
There are people dying of dehydration, with no roof over their heads and no food and she's bitching about free and abundant MREs and water.
