"routine law enforcement matters"

Severe attrition of your police force due to the disaster, no power, no ability to move around the city, no communications, and no part of your city or your populace functioning normally.

Yeah, that's routine.

There is looting in MS.

There isn't, however, an urban population of several hundred thousand in any of the affected areas on MS.

Don't most cities have a management team? Mayor, city manager, city council, fire chief, police chief, engineer, health director, school superintendent, etc.? Does NO ONLY have a Mayor? He is the ONLY person that we have heard from.

To this day I can still recall who the management team was in NYC four years ago. They were out in front, leading.

This guy is falling back on the lessons taught by Jesse Jackson and his ilk.  We are victims and the government should be blamed for everything.

>"Did just hear on NPR she has instructed NG to shoot to kill looters."<

Interesting. I heard her say, to a reporter when asked about this, that the order was not to shoot looters; only to shoot those who directly threaten the safety of others.

These morons who say "send supplies and people in prior to a hurricane" have had a cranial/head reversal.

Just how do these brain trust plan on protecting the supplies, shelter, people etc during the hurricane?

I live in a heavily watched hurricane area, one that looked like a bomb went off after Hurricane Andrew. I know for a fact, if I decide to stay through a Cat 4-5 that is heading our way, I am on my own for at least a week after the storm before receiving any assistance.

Those who do not leave are on their own immediately after a storm.

Now he's blaming the Army Corps of Engineer for the flood

He did that from the beginning. He was complaining that helicopters were being used to rescue and evacuate people rather than dropping sandbags on the levee, meanwhile various senior members of the Army Corps of Engineers were saying "until the water level equalizes, anything we drop in to the breaches will just get washed out".

It was voluntary as per Nagin until the feds called him and told him to make it mandatory

> Nagin is in way over his head - and I'm not talking about the flooding.<

This brings up a good point. Where is the city manager? Doesn't the city have some sort of hierarchy? What are they doing?

My daughter mentioned that same fact. She said that the people close to President Bush and the President himself knew that he could not break down in public. That would have done no one any good.

Maybe anyone from the Eastern European list has some good advice for AlexW?

Did you see all of those buses under water? They could have been used.

No, but preventing people-especially members of your own police department-from participating in the ensuing mayhem is.

They could have done it before the storm hit.

I have wondered the same thing. If they can interview people, why can't they take water in, too?

"Sorry to say, but as cold and callous as it sounds, yes that is exactly what I am saying."

So. If you had been caught in that tsunami, or in this flood, you would have let your family die of thirst or hunger before you went into a grocery store and 'looted' to save their lives.

To be honest, I don't believe anyone on this board would be that 'law-abiding'.

We have disaster drills where people play victims and the emergency people do their jobs.
