Please Lord, don't let it be the L.A. Coliseum.

Agreed. Have you heard anything in this regard?

The Baptists have sent multiple hot food trailers, men and food to NOLA.

The Texas Baptist Association is preparing to take a role in the refugees. I am near Tyler and our little church is preparing to take shifts with meals. There are 250 people that are in local hotels now, but will need to move out. The Baptist camp is opening up their facilites to take them in. We are going send crews to cook and prepare meals. Our ladies group met tonight and planned personal care packages, sheets, teddy bears.

Call a local organization and find out what YOU can do this holiday weekend. Whereever you are, there is a way to help.

If you are just too mad to the looters, pick out a little child in one of the videos and imagine the poor kids. Pack school supplies, teddy bears, baby blankets. 100+ miles of coastline is destroyed for 30 miles inland. The thugs in NO are not the only story.

Finally someone had the sense God gave a rock to recognize that 25,000 people in the Astrodome was just creating another disaster.

Michael Savage has suggested that Bush immediately stop his plan to close the many large U.S. military bases that already have infrastructure in place and use them to house these desperate refugees.

Last I heard, the former Marine base at El Toro, CA was vacant and available. . .

Thats not a nice comment. Agreed. Why pick on Lakewood? I'll bet they'll be offering plenty of financial support.

And what about all of the Mosques around the country? Are they stepping up aid efforts? Where's CAIR?

And how about the Saudis? Their frickin' palaces have their own private malls inside. What the heck are they sending out.

It's always the Christians and Jews stepping up to the plate, and getting slammed as usual.

With all due respect, I've been watching Fox for a good part of the day and have seen the reporters asking many of the vicims "why didn't you leave?" "why did you choose to stay?

Quite possibly, some may not have had cars, or, from what it sounds like, some had very elderly parents (one almost 100), or sick loved ones and they didn't think they could handle the trip.

Also, some said that they weathered Camille and thought they might be able to weather this one, also.

LOL...I agree. I'm so read my eyes are sore. TV is about depressing as it comes.

Other then not so many dead people, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama look they were hit with a nuclear bomb. And the left hasn't waited for corpses to be collected and buried, and their blaming our President. Disgusting.

Uhhh, anyone following the the Katrina threads for a few days prolly shouldn't be REALLY excited about tens of thousands of these folks showing up on your doorstep.

Many of those who did not evacuate are "loners" that have obviously been estranged from family/friends, most likely because they are involved in crime. Otherwise said family/friends would have sent money beforehand so they could get the hell out before the hurricane hit.

We can all get weepy emotional about their pain/suffering and the "big hearts in Houston" that are helping these people, but there will be a long-term cost in increased crime in Houston streets and an increase strain on schools and social services.

Already there are people being turned away from the Astrodome and the local news (KPRC-Channel 2) is now reporting that people are just "milling the streets".

Every city and church in the country might have opened their doors last week.

I've been saying that since Tuesday. There are probably HUNDREDS of church camps all over the south equipped with kitchens and dorms. The Red Cross and Salvation Army volunteers could set right up, with some volunteer deputies and National Guard types at each location to keep order! It would also give local residents places to drop off donations of food, diapers, etc.

I realize they could take smaller numbers; but with some tents set up, and cots...they might have a few thousand at each place...already equipped with kitchens, playground equipment, etc.

Mare Island in Vallejo is also partially vacant - although it has some businesses set up there. Several other vacant bases in CA, too.

Notice how Governor Perry pats himself on the back for taking in the "refugees", but doesn't offer up any venues in Austin.

Whadda ya got in Austin? That rodeo arena east of town would hold about 200 people.

There are no indoor venues in Austin that would hold any significant number of people.

You don't think those libs in Tehran-on-the-Brazos would take these smelly people into their homes, do you?

Texas is in the bittersweet position of being "next door" and healthy. Benevolence can roll easily east, and there's a lot of it going that direction. On the flip side, many thousands of people with nothing to lose but a healthy sense of entitlement are going to make their way west. Ah, well...life is one interesting opporunity after another.

Between the properties owned by Ted Kennedy and John Kerry Heinz that they could erect some tent cities and they could probably house at least 5000 between the beautiful property in PA and On the Cape. And how about the democrats putting some of their fund raising to work. Heck if they could raise 100 million to try to defeat GW, being the caring and compassionate group they are for a good cause like the hurricane relief they should be able to raise at least 200 million in cash.

I'm irritated at all the blame being placed on the President, I just read that Ted Koppel did it too.
