28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.
Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."
Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.
The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

Tropical Storm 12
Oh yea. I see the loot-fest continues and the Bush bashing has begun. How can people believe all these lies?
AirAmerika and devoted listeners == maroons
Great. Thanks for giving the media a heads up so the thugs can take a hostage - next time withold information like name and precise location.
Can't use the trains now...they should have used them to evacuate people the day before the storm. Tracks have to be inspected and bridges recertified before I'd let a person go on them.
Now that the indians are developing the South end of the Grand Canyon Kingman is going to grow like crazy. Property there is already escalating.
Giving yet another interview, I'm sure. Appalling lack of coordination or leadership skills.
It was.. and wouldn't it be nice if the damn media reran THAT video over and over again.. but that won't happen.
please do not repost photos from my server. If you want to repost, use your own server.
From Texas:Our Slidell evac'd family out their home has a tree "launched" thru the roof and still has 2 feet of water in it. They will now start over(with 4 children)....probably in a state north of Texas where the wife/Mom's employer is graciously giving her 3 months free apartment, childcare, clothing, paid relocation(what, they only have what fit in their Ford Explorer!).
Prayers for them as the father/Dad will return to Slidell this weekend to salvage, photo, video, etc. for insurance later.
The Dad will join them later as his employer(outside of NOLA) basically said "we don't care if you live in a tent, get back to work now." Pretty much ends a working relationship....
Mother-in-law from Covington is here in Texas for a few months until other La relatives repair her home & power gets restored(??)....
Thanks to all for your prayers, support, and comments.
"Who they WILL see is our President who is in Biloxi right now giving hugs and crying with the people."
Hopefully.
I've been critical of President Bush throughout this - but the shots of him getting off the the helicopter, obviously completely in charge, and those of him comforting those people on the street were very touching - very unlike the image of him projected by the press conferences.
Hopefully, some of the positive images will actually be broadcast by the MSM, along with the shots of the massive convoys of relief rolling into New Orleans.
Of course, since the primary objective of the MSM is "destroy Bush" (and the secondary objective is "destroy America"), we probably won't see anything positive at all.
The inside of the New Orleans airport is a hospital...they set up a DART team in there to work on incoming refugees with health problems.
As much as I did not like Clinton, he would have been better than Kerry. I just can't even imagine Kerry in this situation.
Clinton would have hugged people and listened to the locals, but Kerry would not.
I guess it means that I actually think Clinton does have some heart. I don't think Kerry has any.
Don't get between the Rev and an open mike and a camera, it's lethal.
You, as usual, are WRONG; I asked a simple question of Txsleuth, which SHE understood and replied to; you are the one who, in your stalking of me, went off halfcocked.
Now the mods have told you to stop posting to me, so why don't you do it? (And that means NOT replying to this post, which, of course, you will do, proving the fact that you are stalking me.)
Oil storage tanks mostly depend on the weight of their contents to hold them down. If they are partially full and then are flooded, they float loose and break the feed pipes.
Big heads up there, lots of those tanks around....and lots of....potential sparks.
A car passes a group of power line trucks Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 near Pachuta, Miss. as a repair is made on one of the trucks. The convoy of trucks, from Kinston, N.C., is headed to Covington, La.
Thanks for posting that, thats a keeper for sure.
How do you do that anyway?
Howlin was not critical of txsleuth. Txsleuth posted something about MSNBC and joked maybe the clock there was actually to mark the last week of the Bush presidency.
Howlin asked "how so". She knew what txsleuth was saying.
Now you've been asked to stop posting by a poster and the admin. in the past to stop so why don't you just stop.
