28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

"Why isn't more of this being reported in the news?"

If they can't fit a fact into the "Bush's Fault" storyline that's been all-the-rage for the past 24 hours, it just didn't happen.

Got up a little while ago after a much-needed break from Cable News, and, yes, even FR - turned on the TV to CNN, and the first thing I heard was, Quote, "The Bush Administration cut funding...." Unquote.

The vultures that have been circling just out of sight are landing and it ain't pretty.

Moreover it provides no direction at all. It does not say, "I have authorized them to use lethal force against any person threatening a rescue worker" (or however you want to phrase it)

I am certain that as soon as a few of these slimeballs are taken out there will be a great flapping of wings and denunciations about why the cops/NG are killing innocent civilians who "only wanted to feed their families".

Anyone shooting the looters will probably also be deemed a racist.

The City was built in a way to control the Port.

The insurers are going to pay for all those buildings....I expect a good many to be torn down. Wonder how much bleach they are going to need to kill all the bacterias and germs. Might by some Clorox stock.

My wife keeps asking me about this, and I keep answering: Without the governor of a state requesting it, the president cannot just waltz into action.

Is that not the case? Doesn't a request have to come from Blanko?

I don't know. It seems to me that the governor is finally showing some guts.

It gets the message out to these thugs that real soldiers are on the streets and ready to do battle with them.

What sort of "show of force" did you have in mind? The looters are armed and are willing to shoot at the cops. Did you want the cops to return fire?

Someone posted a poster from the San Francisco Earthquake with a proclamation by the mayor: LOOTERS WILL BE KILLED.

The number of looters that would have to have been killed to prevent looting from spreading would pale in comparison with the number of people who have died or will die as a result of looters' lawlessness.

0:49 P.M. - (AP): Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared war on looters as 300 National Guard troops landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will," she said.

This is to weird. I was talking to a friend about the National Guard doing urban warfare in Iraq over a year ago and we agreed the someday "These Troops" would be turn on us Americans.

Now I don't have a problem with killing the thugs with police or swat two days ago. After all their just thugs.

And I said today what is it going to taking No Ball Kathleen Blanco to let her Swat or NOPD fire on the thugs, but now Blanco was just waiting for the Federal Government to do her dirty work.

In other words BUSH!

From the Interdicter blog:

You might not be able to see it this small but the cops sticking out the side and back are holding some serious weaponry.

I expected them to come in at night to do something about that hospital that has been begging for aid but has thugs shooting at any that come.

At night it is a lot harder for the shooters to see them.

The FEMA director just confirmed to Paula Zahn exactly what I've been saying all day long.

NO never bothered to tell FEMA that people were IN the Convention Center (because they broke in there) and that's why there wasn't any food or water there!

The Convention Center was never designated a shelter!

"Prioritizing services is one of the toughest jobs in a disaster, but one thing that the managers have to be ready to do is to come out and say 'WAY TOO BIG FOR US' and openly call for everything this country ha"

Reminds me. I caught a bit of a Wed early am interview that dingbat LA Gov. had. When the first big interview was finished a young woman aid was in a crouched position in front of the distraught gov. suciking up kind of and sort of leading her thoughts. I heard the gov. say, and this is nearly verbatim, "..Oh, that's right. I'VE GOT TO CALL THE MILITARY. Thanks for reminding me. I knew there was something I had to do this morning but I forgot it."

I AM NOT KIDDING FOLKS. SOMEONE SHOULD REMEBER THAT AND WHO HAS THE SKILLS COULD GET THAT SEGMENT!! My jaw dropped and I nearly fell out of my chair. It was around 5:30 am Central Time Wed. am.
