What is the normal crime rate in New Orleans? Good question -

It's never been exactly crime-free. In fact, crime-ridden is probably a fair statement about any given year.

Another point is that many of these are not exactly the cream of the crop of New Orleans' residents. They contain a very high percentage of the dregs. Ordinarily, there'd be enough decent folks to keep them in line. Now most of the decent folks among them are the old, and weak.

I keep thinking about that remarkably nice and brave black lady who was interviewed by Fox a few times while waiting to get into the Astodome.

There was an earlier report today about a Spanish MP (Member of Parliament) trapped there who had managed to call his family in Spain. I guess you could say his vacation in NO had gone really, really bad.

He said there was no authority, everything was out of control. I don't know if this is true, because I haven't seen it anywhere else, but it doesn't sound unlikely.

there was always violense down there. my son went to school there and said you can't walk at night because they will jump you. Happened to his friends alot.

I have to say this folks, but after 4 days without electricity, a bathroom and conditions unknown to us, people get REAL desperate! Now, I'm not saying or giving the bastards who are causing all the chaos a pass. I am simply stating that under those condition it's tough! ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN! I'm furious these folks are STILL waiting to be evacuated! MY GOD what is taking so long?
