The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.
Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."
Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."
Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.
He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.
Penny Marshall

Martial Law
(BTW - Hannity said on his show that Martial Law has been declared in some areas.)
Unfortunately, the latter is the correct answer.
Terror cells in NO?? You've got to be kidding. Why on earth would they go to an already destroyed city?
Tourists? An unfortunate choice of words.
Why, they were designated to the Alamo Dome! I'm not saying separate the children from their mom or their only surviving parent! OF COURSE NOT! The rest of the family members could easily hook up at the Alamo dome's register table! Children are a great concern in those type of temperatures, it breaks my heart to think WHAT if it were me and my children in that situation? I would do ANYTHING for their survival's sake!
>What happened to all the disaster planning, preparedness, etc.? <
Tell me what you would have done that wasn't done.
> After the fact, it is quite easy to have 20/20 vision
I agree, there's no point in blaming folks now for things they are surely regretting.
As in all disasters and riots, the looters are the chief optimists. They steal in the belief that things will get back to normal!
A sham to humiliate us at airports and foist the misnamed Patriot Act on the peasants. That's why I have NOT felt safer the last few years - this disaster is a perfect example of paralysis while the elites sit in their gated communities with fresh drinking water.
you know what, you are right...
the 82nd is there now...I got them confused...
the 101st will be there by the end of the year.
I think, because I read this story the other day: http://www4.army.mil/ocpa/read.php?story_id_key=7740
that is how I confused it.
Thurgood ????
Animales....
Joe, I wish more people realized this. Very well said.
Excuse me sir, but we DON'T RAPE, BEAT, AND ROB people in this country !!!! We take the offending "persons" rights away. And if we are unable to arrest and incarcerate them, then we must shoot them. THEY DO NOT, AND MUST NOT, HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN THE PEOPLE THEY ARE VIOLATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL....the terrorists wouldn't last a minute.
Sorry, but I just can't understand a Chief of Police describing a scene of utter chaos and violence, and basically saying, "gee somebody ought to do something about that." Like who, the police?
Exactly what I was discussing with co-workers today....there's been no water/food drops....but we have the capability to do so outside the U.S. Makes no sense to me at all.
They sent 88 cops to the Convention Center. They made it 30 feet inside the building before they were beaten back. The rules of engagement sound like they were too tepid - as they have been for the last few days.
LOL. "Who you lookin' at, Mohammed?"
