Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

I've never cared for Shepard Smith. He's a drama queen.

Yeah...that right...Shep's the one who's lying about the cops ignoring all the other citizens, too, when they keep asking the cops where to go...it's Shep who's a liar, and we're full of conjecture...
but there's people down there dying from lack of water and food...
great plans of the mayor/city/governor
To: SolarisRocks
Why can't military helicopters fly food/water to those people? They have been. There were pictures of troops offloading a helicopter at the Superdome last night.

No opinion of Shep since I seldom watch him but I did see the clip the first time they showed it. I think that he was on point. I see this as being akin to the falling/jumping bodies at the Trade Center. We're big boys and girls, show us.

All I could see was what looked like a mattress laying over someone who had committed suicide.
They showed plenty of corpses in other countries during the tsunami, is there a law stating that we cannot report that kind of news in the U.S. of A.
The total death toll from Katrina is unknown right now and will be very high when everyone is accounted for. The MSM is taking this hurricane situation and making it much worse than it really needs to be. President George Bush and all the state and Federal entities cannot fix this problem with a click of the fingers. The MSM is sure trying to make all watchers think that way though. Thats what really disgust me.
I've been in hurricanes before and the days following the storm are the real hell compared to the actual storm. The heat and lack of normal American comfort needs can make people in this country look like spoiled brats. Life may be hell for these folks right now, but it certainly isn't the end of the world.
They need to show some grandstanding by showing some looters being hung from trees or shot dead on the spot. Americans looting just because they can is no excuse. I never thought of looting during the hurricanes, even though I needed food and water. I would have paid dearly for some ice, I just didn't have the connections to get any.
These people in New Orleans are close to being RATS instead of humans. Maybe more grandstanding should be used to knock some sense into these peoples heads.

As to Shep's reporting. The news is the news, a dead body on the side of the highway is news, why should he cover it up. I think Shep is doing a good job under impossible conditions.

and as I said...citizens have been telling Shep that the cops are NOT telling them anything, either.
We got to see that....on camera.

You have a very, very good point. This is sending an incredible message to the world about our ability to immediately respond to disaster. BUT... I think long term we will send a stronger message on our strength and willingness to continue our way of life.
To: W04Man
Has Shep run over anyone today?
Ref.: He ran over a woman in the parking lot of a Florida courthouse in the aftermath of the 2000 election.

Thank you! My thoughts exactly.

I have to tell you that it infuriates me to hear so many people "offended" by that dead body on the 110 in NOLA. Wake up and smell it people. The reality here is dead people, too many dead bodies and not enough refridgerated trucks to pile em into.

Guess I'm the odd man out, I don't love Shep but he isn't on my sh#$%t list either.
Ah, don't fret. Shep is just their target du jour. Any other time it would be Greta, and/or in the past Rita Cosby.
Sheps ok imo too.

Another point. Do NOT keep your liquid assets in small, local banks. If you do, and there's a disaster, you will not have access to your funds.
Keep your liquid assets in major institutions, where record-keeping is maintained in multiple locations. You'll be able to access your funds, no matter the emergency. If you have to bail, make a first priority your banking records. Those MUST travel with you.

An example of Americans helping Americans without government help. Charity begins at home folks.
Dorothy Divic, 89, is surrounded by onlookers trying to keep her alive on a street outside the New Orleans Convention Center September 1, 2005. Several people among the thousands of stranded hurricane evacuees have died while waiting outside the building, with
no sign of imminent help on the way.
A military truck with a lone soldier onboard drives by Dorothy Divic, 89, as onlookers trying to revive Divic
yell in vain for him to stop, on a street outside the New Orleans Convention Center September 1, 2005.

I realize that this is a grim story, and dead bodies are certainly part of the story -- increasingly so -- but Shep's report was insane. He had this grim melodramatic tone to his voice, as if he were at a wake or something, then he had his cameraman pan over to show him and the conveniently located dead body behind him. The only thing missing was the dramatic music cued to crescendo wtih the reveal of the body.
I know Shep wants a Peabody or Pulitzer, but this was just plain ridiculous and borderline offensive.
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

very true...some kind of answer.
To: W04Man
I saw that.
Shep told them which video to play and even said there was a woman speaking at the end of the video. He was very clear which video he wanted them to run.
They instead ran the video with the dead man in the street. I think that it was NY that made the call which one to play.
Shep even said after they played the video that it was not the one he wanted them to play.
