Former Presidents Bush, Clinton asked to raise cash for hurricane victims
WASHINGTON President Bush is asking his father and former President Bill Clinton to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The two have been raising money for victims of the tsunami that hit Asia in December. The former presidents plan to meet at the White House today with the current chief executive.
A White House spokesman also says President Bush will tour the damage zone tomorrow by helicopter and then will see some spots on the ground. The spokesman says Bush wanted to visit the area earlier but "didn't want to be disruptive of efforts on the ground."
Maybe we can put our political opinions in cold storage for a few days until we get the victims to safety.
And miss all the great bashing time? Surely you're kidding.
Yeah, it not like the bashers actually have any SERIOUS ideas. Take away their ability to whine endlessly and they would have NOTHING to say.
We don't need to be throwing money at this problem right now. We need to be laying down the law and taking out the thugs who think they can turn Louisiana into Mogadishu.
"I don't think a dime should be going to that area until the looting is stopped, the snipers are killed, and order is restored. "
Oh, gosh, OK. Let's see. We won't help the maybe 100,000 people still in N.O. until the 1000 who are looting stop doing that. Yeah...that makes sense.
Tell that to the mother of a 2-year-old, or to an 80-year-old man who is blind.
So...don't send any money. That's OK. It's competely up to you.
In the meantime, I guess you won't mind if I do.
It's George Ws fault
Gee isn't it amazing. All the things that piss you off were part of LBJ's great society and that is all Bush's fault? Gee thanks for cluing us all in. How about actually DOING something about it? How about doing so lobbying to get Congress to reimpose the 1995 PAY AS YOU GO rules? OH, but that right. You ARE doing something. Your complaining so that removes any responsiblity for you to actually DO something!
a.k.a. "Read My Lips" and the nation's soon-to-be first First Gentleman.
And maybe instead of taking cheap hateful shots, you might listen to press conferences and learn the President IS donating a substantial sum to the Red Cross.
Slick should never be allowed in Oval Office which he turned into oral orfice during his reign.
I'm at work (office hours for a college teacher take up every afternoon), and was referring to the Bush FAMILY, in particular. Read my post. I have no doubt that W will cough up some change; he seems a decent person.
LMAO!
One thing concerns me, has anyone noticed that our fed gov etc doesn't appear to have it together in handling a disaster of this magnitude? What would happen if God forbid there was a major terroist attack?? The dept of "Homeland Security" sure isn't making me feel any more secure.
This is outrageous, anyone see the people there in New Orleans that are shaking their fists at the TV camera's and giving the finger amongst other interesting gestures because they aren't getting help? They are angry with Bush it appears.
What about the people down there right now that are shooting at helicopters and at hospitals??
I sure hope that all the people being placed here in Texas will be searched before they are allowed to stay.
"Hey man, I never touched that chick...'Mr. Winky' did."
Nothing new there. The best help will come directly from the people of the United States, and it will not just be words and money.
I'll be ticked if they give cash payments to any looters. But you know they will, plus vouchers for food and everything else not nailed down.
I read the post, found the "upteen" millions they could donate to be uncalled for but after just being in the midst of several posters that don't have anything better to do then spread hate I'm not in the most calming of moods, I'll readily admit, and it is infecting my reaction to other posts. :-)
What's with Cafferty? He was just on CNN ranting and raving about the fact that "our Fed gov isn't there helping the people of New Orleans and that our President appeared arrogant" Good grief who put a bee in his bonnet? I mean he was ranting loudly.
As I said the only thing that truly concerns me is that no one appears to be ready should a big terroist attack happen.
Well folks we better get our guns, bullets, and survival gear ready.
Hey!... This gives me an idea for a website: A website of Katrina's needy -- together with pictures and addresses -- so that contributers know who's benefitting from their generosity.
No problem. I was just trying to point out that the ultra-rich in this country are just going to sit on their hands through this whole thing, while middle class puppies like myself donate money (and a generator--it's on its way to Mississippi as of this morning).
AMEN!
The people in the Gulf region NEED OUR HELP!!!
What is wrong with people who scoff at the potential for great fundraising on behalf of those in need.
What is WRONG with you, that your political ideology trumps your soul?
