Rita Cosby just had a head director of the effort to plug the New Orleans levee breaks. A few big bits of news out of the interview.
1. Another 700 foot break has occured in the levee. 2. Once the figure out how to do it, it will take three to four days to plug the breaks. 3. They will have to use helicopters. It is not possible to reach the areas by land or by water. 4. It will take 3 to 6 months to drain the water out New Orleans. 5. It is a very difficult problem with several teams of engineers working on a solution.

Scientific fact or Freeper intuition?
I think alot of people have difficulty understanding that there are some situations that are impossible to control.
This is a catastrophe and as with other disasters there is no one rule book to go by.
It's amazing what some Americans expect.

I just saw it on MSNBC - Rita Cosby Show. I wish I had gotten the guys name. But he was a head honcho and made no qualms about saying it would take months to drain New Orleans.
Rita, to her credit, pressed him for an answer. At first he said months. She followed up with, how many months. He said, three to six months. She also got in the interview that they do not have a solution.
The later would seem rather obvious since nothing is happening but a politician would never say it so frankly.
Look for it in tomorrow's headlines. She is a day ahead on this one.
I heard that the water level in New Orleans has already reached the same level as the lake.
Foxnews and MSNBC just came back on my cable system.
I've been tortured by having to watch CNN for the past 24 hours.
Since FOX was out, I actually tried to tune into "the fat disgusting one" Rita Cosby. Fortunately that channel was out too.

Yes. So we first have to lower the lake.
Yeah I heard the flood waters have crested which can only mean it reached the level of the lake as it would take a ton of rain to raise the water level of any lake.
Not to late to fix this problem.

Natural dam? What a maroon! LP is open to Lake Borne, which is open to the Gulf. Neither is really a lake: both are actually brackish estuaries.

Most of NO is actually above sea level.
Bzzzzzzz! Wrong again, private. 95% of NOLA is 8-15 feet below sea level. The only reason they didn't flood out long ago was the now-failing levee system. Strike three.
Give up your hopeless dreams. NOLA, as we have known her, is DONE.
It was only a hurricane. Granted, a very destructive hurricane. But, if this were a cataclysmic event of biblical proportions, I doubt many of us would be here posting on FR at the moment.
In other words, as big as this may seem, in the scale of things it is but a blip.
I would take freeper intuition over scientific fact. But, the evidence is there for all to see, the collapse continues to spread. It is also my understanding that you have to pump the water back into the lake to drain NO, and those levees are in no shape to take on the extra load.
Scientific fact.
The hydrostatic pressure now being exerted against the levees is immense. They will all fail before the city can be pumped dry. Even if it were possible to magically fix ALL levees RIGHT NOW, the 3 months it would take to pump the city dry would see little left worth salvaging.
Match IQ, Education and Experience with you anytime, but lets talk about facts first.
#1 Most of NO is actually above sea level.
#2 LP is currently 3 feet above sea level and slowly draining to Gulf.
#3 Bigger hole drains it faster.
#4 city is now connected to lake
#5 Lake goes down 3 feet, so does city.
#6 The difference between 3 feet deep and 0 feet deep is the difference between very wet and dry.

What extra load? The lake has been going down from the last 4 days.
Thats basically what I meant. Hopefully, the nation will learn many things from this event. Corrupt politicians can cost lifes and money. But hey, many of us already knew this.

No load now on the lake side.
The river side is under no heavy load as the river is at near normal levels.
