MSNBTV ^ | August 31, 2005 | Rita Cosby

Posted on 08/31/2005 10:45:57 PM PDT by BJungNan

Rita Cosby just had a head director of the effort to plug the New Orleans levee breaks. A few big bits of news out of the interview.

1. Another 700 foot break has occured in the levee. 2. Once the figure out how to do it, it will take three to four days to plug the breaks. 3. They will have to use helicopters. It is not possible to reach the areas by land or by water. 4. It will take 3 to 6 months to drain the water out New Orleans. 5. It is a very difficult problem with several teams of engineers working on a solution.

I was joking the other day that it was raining so bad here I could probably go fishing in the street. Looks like a reality down there... sad :(

If the rebuild New Orleans, it should just be for commercial and industrial use and not let so many vulnerable folks live down there in that fish bowl.

Were any of these breaks on purpose to try to control the flood's path?

The longer water stays on both sides of the levees, the more they will weaken and fail. The situation, already out of control, is cascading beyond human abilities to fix it.

The "we can do anything" type here on FR will insist that I am wrong, but it is a simple fact that the repair of the NOLA levees, the draining of 230 square miles of flooded areas, and the rebuilding of NOLA in its current site is cost-prohibitive.

Would the last person to swim out of NOLA please bring the flag?

The rescue operations alone appear to be beyond our abilities. Hopefully at least we will learn many lessons from this event.

The time has come to let it go, and post a big sign at the entrance to the city that says "New Orleans Wildlife Preserve".

"If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,

If it keeps on rainin’, levee’s goin’ to break,

When the levee breaks I’ll have no place to stay.

Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,

Lord, mean old levee taught me to weep and moan,

Got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home,

Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well.

Don’t it make you feel bad

When you’re tryin’ to find your way home,

You don’t know which way to go?

If you’re goin’ down south

They go no work to do,

If you don’t know about chicago.

Cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,

Now, cryin’ won’t help you, prayin’ won’t do you no good,

When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.

All last night sat on the levee and moaned,

All last night sat on the levee and moaned,

Thinkin’ ’bout me baby and my happy home.

Going, go’n’ to chicago,

Go’n’ to chicago,

Sorry but I can’t take you.

Going down, going down now, going down.

Will all this water in the "bowl" affect the integrity of the levees set against the Mississippi River?

This is a real can of worms. The remaining levees that are under water will all be softening up from being water logged for so long; I fear that when the city starts being drained by the ACOE, the softened-up levees will fail as well.

Not to late to fix this problem.

B52 bomb raid on the LP natural dam to open up flow to the gulf.

Most of NO is actually above sea level.

LP is currently about 3 feet above sea level. Will take a week to get near sea level with natural drainage. Maybe 12 hours with new wide channel.

NO would drain down 3 feet lower than it is now, saving many lives and making repairs much easier.

Is history repeating itself, or is this prophesy being fulfilled before our eyes? Only time will tell.

Ezekiel 26
13 And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard.

14 And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.

15 Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?

16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at thee.

17 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it!

18 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure.

19 For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;

20 When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;

The city of New Orleans has just joined the artificial reef program. Judging by how fast we have restored the WTC, that city will not be back before 2150.

How high's the water, mama?
Five feet high and risin'
How high's the water, papa?
Five feet high and risin'

Well, the rails are washed out north of town
We gotta head for higher ground
We can't come back till the water comes down,
Five feet high and risin'

Well, it's five feet high and risin'

Rescue Operations, for the most part, must occur in the first 72 to 96 hours after the disaster to be sucessful and effective. Due to this fact, local authorities are the ones responsible for such operations.

NOLA (and indeed LA itself) are "led" by inept, incompetent DemoCrap scam-artist slugs.

We will learn many things from this event, but you are smoking beaucoup "good dope" if you think anything is gonna change. NOLA have been a cesspool for decades; going on a century. It may well turn out to be a good thing that it has finally been "flushed".

Yes.

The levee system is very near to TOTAL collapse.
