Just announced on WWLTV. The Mayor of New Orleans has just declared martial law to deal with the looters. No Miranda Rights, etc.
I disagree,so that gives some the reason to rob homes ,rape ,steal drugs from hospitals, and you must have an AK47.Being poor is no excuse.
Being poor is not an excuse.I'm sure there were many other less fortunate who left when they should have, and others who stayed, and did not do these horrible acts. These people are just plain wrong. But nevertheless our government will give them anything they want and demand.
WTF was he waiting for? Such an a-hole. Whoa...the mayor speaks and the waters part. How freekin sickening!!!
Nope.
We have a winner. Now go take a price from the Wal Mart window.

My foot. A large portion of these are part of the professional criminal class and those who go along with them. They make a living off of preying off those who look like easy targets, part of the drug culture that grew on the back of the welfare society that has wreaked havoc with New Orleans for years.
Don't make excuse for these people. They are users who prey on the poor and week in their own areas, and anybody else they see as an easy target.
This must be repeated...
"What happens when liberalism fails, and the government teat runs dry? Communism ALWAYS fails, and this is just a taste of what can be. had people been more independant and self supporting, raised on and respected GOD, this wouldn't be happening. They would be pulling together and helping each other instead."
Thank you, NZ!
you seem smart, get a new girlfriend. If she thinks it's OK to steal from a business "to survive", what about stealing from another family? What about stealing from you or her? After this 'precedent', what about the next disaster that happens? I can hear it now, 'looting was OK in New Orleans, why can't I get some free stuff now?' Hey, there's a disaster in New Orleans but gasoline is four bucks a gallon so I just took it, so what if I live in Alexandria...and on and on. Terri Schaivo lasted two weeks in her weakened condition before she passed away. I don't think too many people are close to her condition yet. Surely as a socialist, she has faith that our socialist government will step in and feed and water the masses. Isn't that what about half of my income is confiscated for?
Love that tagline. My answer to your question is, "No. Dickie Scruggs will not sue himself over the hurricane." :-)
"Oh my gosh...could it be this devious? Could the governor and mayor have delayed PROTECTING the innocent, the suffering, the unarmed BECAUSE they wanted to force our President, to once again play "daddy" like he had to in ordering the gov and mayor to declare MANDATORY EVACUATION.."
No, I don't think that at all, it didn't even come to my mind. I just think that the poster I was replying to had a good point. The jackals in the MSM that hate Bush WILL use that against him if he did. Why can't LA gov't call for it it themselves? Lack of huevos, perhaps?
lol....hoping you would notice
nah.... it is just poor planning to kill your contituants.
If the mayor were white, they would be complaining and marching. Just a fact. Somehow they will try to make Katrina Bush's fault.
It's not that clear cut. There are desperate people who need food, water and medicine for them and their families to survive. There also oppoprtunists who are taking advantage of the chaos for their own gain and psychopaths who relish the opportunity to shoot someone and almost certainly get away with it.
The problem is that all those people are mingled together in the same crowd. The sad truth is that the criminal gangs are probably the only organizations left in the city that can coordinate activities without radios or cell phones, and their time isn't occupied with saving lives. Any church or civic group sufficiantly organized to feed its poorest members was sufficiently organized to evacuate them last weekend.
So the local thugs, who have the weapons and experience breaking in to buildings, start doing so with a bunch of legitimately desperate people right behind. They're not difficult to tell apart -- look at what they're carrying. If they're carring bread, produce and bottled water, they're probably just trying to get by. If they're carring plasma TVs and jewelry, this probably isn't the first time they've stolen.
I'm not terribly interested in blaming anyone in government for a lack of planning, This was an unprecedented event on many levels. I don't recall any disaster in the U.S. where thousands of people were expected to be trapped for days without the likelihood of being able to get even bottled water.
But we should be thinking ahead to the next natural disaster, or God forbid, a WMD attack. Emergency planners should have a list of every distribution point for necessities -- groceries, distribution warehouses, etc. Send cops to secure, them, and have a rationing plan in place. Sick and elderly first, then children, then able-bodied adults. Anyone trying to jump in line or steal non-essential items will be warned, then shot if they don't stop.
Individual cops on the beat, sheriff's deputies, corrections officers, neighborhod watch captains, etc. should have a post assigned ahead of time in case communications are cut off. Obviously, saving lives takes precedence, but for a cop without a helicopter or a boat, the most effective way to save lives in NOLA right now is to help get food and water to those on the brink.
Contact your local Red Cross or Salvation Army chapter. My prediction is that they'll ask you to send money instead -- that was the advice after 9/11. Money is the one thing that's infinitely portable, and will allow them to shift from, say, water to food or medicine as needs and supplies shift.
They have the logistical experience, and the resources of the National Guard for distribution. I understand the impulse to get out and physically do something, but that's not always the most effective way to help.
Joe Scarborough was saying tonight they needed drinking water
I am suspect of the Red Cross.
You, and Hollywood, underestimate the power of moving water. They couldn't get close enough to the levee breach to do any good. Even the Army Corps and National Guard are trying to plug the breeches by lifting in concrete barriers from the air. Anyone close on the gound would be swept away.
