President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I'm to angry right now to even type. Why are the above not donating supplies, where are the hotels, chain restaurants, shoe stores, etc? Taking matching fund?

I don't know the exact area, but he said its an old house on 3 acres of land about 15 miles out of Biloxi. He lives here in Tokyo near me and was only able to contact his brother in Chicago. Last name is Harris. Thank you for asking.

Ya know, if it is so difficult to coordinate, as Gov Blanco is stating (and I believe her), why doesn't she put a military general in charge of coordination?

But what makes it an "attack?" Because someone heard a gunshot?

Actually the report of snipers is very credible:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/09/01/katrina.impact/index.html

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- New Orleans' Charity Hospital halted efforts to evacuate its patients after it came under sniper fire, according to Dr. Tyler Curiel, who witnessed the incidents. The attack came as New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued "a desperate SOS" for the thousands of people stranded in an around the city's convention center with no food or water and fading hope. Curiel and his National Guard escorts, were returning to the hospital after dropping off patients at nearby Tulane Medical Center, when someone started shooting at their convoy of Humvees. "We were coming in from a parking deck at Tulane Medical Center, and a guy in a white shirt started firing at us," Curiel said. "The National Guard (troops), wearing flak jackets, tried to get a bead on this guy. "

I don't think Gupta would spread a rumor do you ?

I think that the hospital staff might not know the differce between shots fired, and an "attack" on the hospital. I think people in the hospital have heard the same rumors as we have read on here (because they obviously have phone service) I think people are on edge.

Good point..while everyone is out today..if you don't see a matching funds sign in a store you shop at..ask to see a manager and have him call his manager..etc. and ask why.

"He didn't need to show the dead body with the dramatic overtones in his voice..."

Earlier on this thread someone was blasting him for NOT showing it. So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Updates as they come in on Katrina
02:28 PM CDT on Thursday, September 1, 2005
Tom Planchet

2:25 P.M. - Email to WWL producer today from a friend: Talked to Donny (news photographer Donny Pearce of WVUE) today for a while, he's in Shreveport with his folks, sounds very shaken up, had a horrifying escape from the city apparently, people hanging on his truck begging for help/food/money....saw all the looting,, taped the storm shredding JP Sheriffs headquarters.

I did hear that martial law was enacted for a couple of days but the cops saw no signs of looting so martial law was suspended. It was only innocent storekeeper's who got shot.

There were FReepers last night insisting that people wouldn't open their wallet and donate until they say dead bodies. A version of pay-per-view is what I figured. They had all the logistics figured out from their armchairs eating popcorn. Show the dead bodies, but blur the faces so the families watching tv wouldn't recognize them...

A pathetic example for a civilized society.
