President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

In previous days I posted more carefully. I would not shoot looters taking food/water. But I think that's all gone now.
Justice Dept. and Homeland Security to have an announcement shortly regarding looting in NO according to FNC.
Does anyone but me wonder why Shep and the cameraman can't tell those people which way to go, maybe even lead them there?
But, from the coverage I am seeing, there isn't any place to go that will have food and water for them. The convention center seems to have dying dehydrated people.
Where is the mayor? Where is the Governor?
Perhaps, but the gas being shut off is only one of many things that appears to be going wrong.
If you have a firearm, and you use that firearm to cut in line, get an earlier ride out, and the government response is to halt evac operations, what is your next logical move?
Accelerant?
You how quickly it went up, judge for yourselves.
Did anyone actually SEE anyone inside there?
An entire city in death throes. It's like nuclear war in microcosm.
This must be something like Berlin in May 1945. Good God.

12:30 P.M. - WWL-TV: Charity Hospital is almost finished evacuating all their patients. Minimal food and water remains.
12:28 P.M. - (AP): Dozens of post offices were closed and mail service was suspended in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. But officials said they are working to get mail to people. Click here.
I saw the shots on CNN......looks like they're about ready to riot.
Time for gov't to decide who's going to live.....the refugees or the gangbanging looters???
If you were running across the freeway and got hit by a car, I would probably say you should not have done that. I would not call that "Hindsight".
From the national guard website:
The governor can call the National Guard into action during local or statewide emergencies, such as storms, fires, earthquakes or civil disturbances.
If you delcare a city of 1.5 million people should be completely evacuated, I would think that would qualify as an emergency. This was not just an emergency Monday, it was one Friday and Saturday.

Howlin -
This country WILL PULL THROUGH. However, I'm at a loss for words to describe what's happening.
AQ must be sitting back and taking notes...
But slow motion, day after day death throes . . . agonizingly slow, relentless . . .
I wouldn't go there if I were you
Good. You're human :-)
Perhaps, but it got rebuilt, got reunited, and is stronger than ever.
Thread on FR now - reports that Fats Domino hasn't been seen since Monday.
