President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Looking for a place to take the wounded soldier - probably didn't expect this at the SD

Then it's time go go Mad Max + Waterworld on 'em.

Have most of the family buses left?

Yeah, it's not like Louisiana, on a relief mission, is a place where a U.S. Soldier expects to get shot . . .

Didn't the fine DEM authorities in NO pre-screen everyone entering the SD

Yes they did. But it seems things have degenerated in NO since that time.

A couple of things have become patently obvious:

No matter what the skin color, folks who have been on the lower rung of society have been pushed in to the role of representing all of the refugees and that's not accurate.

While a bunch of thugs are grabbing headlines and attention, regular people who are just trying to survive are being lumped in or taken advantage of the dominance of a few idiots with guns and nothing to lose.

The bad news for the thugs is that they will be remembered and they won't be there for the rebuilding. And the rebuilding, recovery, and rescue will resonate in the hearts of many people who just wanted to live.

Furthermore, anyone who turned their back on their family to swim a plasma-screen to the safety of a soon-to-be-flooded project won't be admired by anyone who struggles for a job when the water drops.

In all, this has exposed for anyone who cares to see that there's some that do, there's some that don't, there's some that can't, and there's some that won't.

The last bunch probably won't be supported nearly as much as before. Federal oversight for welfare, etc. notwithstanding.

If I were a cussing person, this is sure the moment for it. I thought I'd lost my capacity to be shocked, but the idea that a soldier attempting to help these people at the SuperDome has been shot is beyond belief.

Saying many prayers.

Won't open for me, either.

It opened for me in my "MuisicMatch Jukebox" program. How or why, I haven't a clue.

I've never even used that program before. lol

We're gonna need to get our troops out of f'in New Orleans . . .

All we need is a few pissed off citizens to step up to the plate. A small legion of rough citizens with guns and an unforgiving attitude versus a few parasitic hoodlums will sort itself out really quickly.

Happy now?

If that was a renegade bus, looted. Otherwise, I would be glad they made it to Houston. This isn't about race, despite your accusations (which are false). The lawlessness in New Orleans is treacherous, and it is hurting efforts to save people (both black and white). That simply cannot be rewarded in Texas or anywhere else.

I know...They are not policemen..but some are vets of Iraq and might know how to control a crowd or take out a gunman.
I am more worried about safety of the essential workers and innocent victims than I am about stolen items....I don't give up on taking a few that are shooting at rescuers and threatening others.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but that whoosing sound you might have just heard is my point going over your head.

You've talked about looters.

Color me confused; when were we NOT talking about we have seen on TV for the last two days?

There's also good survivors, victims in hospitals, the refugees arriving in Houston, the people on rooftops waving flags.

Who are all waiting around to be helped because of the aforementioned looters/murderers/shootists/rapists.

Why in the world did they release the prisons? Surely they could have transferred them to other prisons.

Are you series? How did I miss that?
