President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

The cops have thrown up their hands..The Gov implies there is nothing to be done, thugs are commandeering mailtrucks, trying to carjack, shooting at rescue helicopters..Jindel as just speaking on a rerun of Scarborough Country.
I feel sorry for poor people, the elderly the ill who could not afford to leave, even for fools who thought they could ride it out..I do not blame anyone for stealing water or food if they are trapped , hungry and thirsty..It is a desperate life threatening situation..but those looters stealing liquor and leather jackets.., electronics, TVs, jewelry, etc are criminals..Those using guns should be shot...I want these thugs stopped..but the rescuers are trying to rescue..I hope the NG can help...The NO police have no control..This isn't Mardi Gras.
I am so angry at the deeds of a few that bring dishonor to those who may have been wrong and foolish to stay in NO..but are merely trying to get out now.
I have not had to pay so high a price for my errors in judgement as those trapped in the flooding city. No one has been put in harms way for my poor judgement either as have the rescuers.
The rescuers and regular folks need protection from the criminals..the Gov and Mayor did not have a clue..I hope the NG can help the situation..
A lot of fitting insight and wisdom is in your post.
Thanks.
Very sobering and getting worse by the minute, imho.
Hey!! Deo!! How are ya?
"Looting of food should end when proper food aid is setup and distributed."
this is not historically replicable on any large scale. Looting is a constant in the human experience.
Did you hear the part earlier about finding 100 buses at a truck stop?
"how do you suppose you get out of a city?"
You go to the superdome and say "get me out of this city"
Done.
And there goes that argument you keep throwing around.
Keep us posted, thanks..
How about not taking the official line hook line and sinker. They could very well have gone renegade by forcing the driver to relinquish the driver's seat, and drove full speed, those buses come with regulators/restriction plates that max spped to whatever the school district requires, usually 66 to 70 mph. That would have put them almost an hour ahead of the slow moving convoy. And made them "renegades".
What's with that link? I can't get it to do anything.
Excellent post. But I bet that's a very hard duty to face for our soldiers to be sent in to go after Americans, even criminals. It's all a damn shame.
Well said, imho.
Thx.
Well I would be ashamed of freepers who said those things too. Maybe I am reading to fast, but I don't remember seeing comments like that on this thread.
You cannot possibly be serious. Actual specific people? I don't know how I could be much plainer about it; I am speaking quite openly and plainly about "actual and specific" black people who are stealing anything that isn't nailed down in New Orleans.
Now if you consider me to be a bigot and not worth discussing this issue with because I have the nerve to state out loud what every person in this country is seeing live on national TV, perhaps it's not me who isn't dealing with "acts we can know."
I'm seein' all kinds of people and events on TV, not just one.
Now you're just being disengenuous, so I can see why you're putting me on pretend ignore.
Appears we may have a "situation" at the dome . . . now on the scanner . . .
Not too bad. How about you?
Earlier this afternoon, there was a report of folks using guns to cut in the bus lines. It was in reference to the people who had gathered on one of the overpass areas where they were dropping off those rescued from flooded homes. It was a way for those who didn't like the long waits to go to the head of the line.
I'm not sure if it was on MSNBC, or Nola.com
You might of heard of the Marines "strongest tribe" tactics in Iraq. The NOPD officers in small groups have adopted that strategy. The situations within NOPD have been documented for over 2 decades.
Like a very typical DU troll, you still haven't answered the question. If they were only trying to get to Houston, why did he lie about what happened in the Superdome?
