President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Thank you and other Freepers for your support and suggestions. We'll keep trying.
I don't know who you are, but you should consider what they did after they got there. Sounds like a really bad bunch to me.
Hwy 49 is closed below Hattiesburg except for emergency vehicles.
I wouldn't try any side roads down from Laurel, those are two-lane roads that I can just about guarantee that are blocked.
It took my brother0in-law 6 hours to get from Meridian to Hattiesburg on Hwy 59; Good luck.
I turned it off too....sorry for the ping...sent george a nasty fast blast too
i think every major city in the US is only 24 hours away from third world anarchy...
and only our careful disregard of this fact allows us to continue on with our daily lives.
Yep. There's a bad moon rising over New Orleans.
I always miss the good stories - please ping me when you hear updates to that one.
This isn't racism at all... I don't care if you are white, black or green.. don't use drugs, don't put young children or dogs in danger, don't loot, don't shoot up police stations with AK47's...
Agree.
That's right. Those are the exact words he used on the phone. "War zone".
Nope saw those buses driving through the water and it was going up about 5 foot or so on them for a long stretch. BTW there is reports of a most that surrounds the Super dome and at one point the people inside had to go to theupper parts to escape the raisng water.
So *sigh* maybe you need to get some better info. Also BTW they stopped letting people into the Super Dome long before Shep started asking questions of the officials in the bridge area.
Yep, I am... and the mayor and governor, too.
Shep was never more than 1/2 mile away from the Superdome during his reports from I-10 today, and usually he was closer. His female (don't know her name) counterpart with Fox was standing next to a Salvation Army relief center located under I-10 at the Superdome. He claimed nobody was getting any water, food, or help all day (despite actually getting video of trucks loaded with water and supplies parking on the interstate). His female counterpart explained that refugees were receiving good care including food water and medical care. Later, Shep told Brit that nothing was being done to help refugees just as a convoy of motor coaches full of refugees drove behind him leaving the Superdome. It was almost funny. Was he lying? I don't think he was outright lying. I think he just found the story he wanted and ran with it. He is obviously under a lot of emotional stress. I just don't think he is the right person for Fox to rely on at this stage of the game.
And, by the way, innocent people in New Orleans are going to die because rescuers have to delay efforts to save them due to lawless thieves in the city. This must not be rewarded.
He relayed info he got from a friend helping with recovery down in Mississippi. Then he posted Orlando Salinas from FNC saying they are going to be using 18-wheelers to hold bodies and was banned for it.
Weird and wild stuff. I think the mods are worried about speculation and everything, but that wasn't speculation.
Thank you for the threads...
God bless the rescuers and those who give aid..May God comfort those who have lost so much..
I thought that was one meal away from anarchy.
Sure would not like to be on a lifeboat with a bleeding heart liberal. Specially if the boat is short one life preserver.
I hope you get help there ASAP.
Can you call one of the local tv stations for NO?
Yes, but they are poor and the wrong color, er, culture for some here...
