Hostage Situation in New Orleans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.

LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.

The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).

Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.

Alas, "they" are not "robbing their own".

Think this one through ~ where are they putting the stash?

Now, what about simply rounding up all the people, thieves and all, and toting them out of there!

Please note that we are going to see fires starting over the next few weeks, or as long as the floods continue, and entire neighborhoods are going to burn to the waterline.

So, where are they going to keep their stash?

I think you see some confused criminals and confound them with real looters.

And how quickly they'll be brought up to speed and dispatched. But it's a good start. I keep thinking how it must be for all the people stranded there at night. It's going to be a long several months for them.

Shep just said he was told by another FOX correspondent that citizens were seen walking around NO with AK 47's

it does not reflect back on the good guys in my book

Thanks, I'm so worried for him and all the innocents, perhaps some of them were just stupid but there were lots of just really poor people who couldn't get out. I don't think some of the people on FR understand the situation. The NO police manage crowds during Mardi Gras and do an amazing job becuase sometimes they must assess what is worth doing something about and what will just cause more trouble. I think in the more than 30 years I have been associated with New Orleans (lived there for 18 years), they do a remakable job under very difficult situations. This one, however, would tax the resources and stamina of anyone anywhere. God bless you for understanding.

I hope they fire him in a heartbeat, but I bet nothing will be done.

I have the utmost respect for law enforcement, and I am absolutely sickened to see this kind of behavior.

I don't know. I would imagine banks, like the casinos, took their cash, but I don't know how many people would have thought to go clear their safety deposit boxes.... when they only had a few hours to batten down the house and pack up and head out.

Bank vaults, especially in larger downtown branches that are older, are pretty significant things and don't yeild to a mob armed with bats and 9mm handguns. A large oxy/acetelene rig, maybe. These idiots couldn't light one.

Yes I was sure you were asleep as no one awake, with an IQ over 80, could really think that.

Alas, "they" are not "robbing their own".

Alas, go back and read my post. There is no where I said anything about robbing their own.

I said they will not STOP ROBBING ON THEIR OWN. They need the law enforcement presence to bring things under control.

The only thing that will stop the looting is the fact that law enforcement will stop it. And, as far as carting them out of there. I think it is more important to cart out the ones dying, drowning, or sick first.

OK, got the words switched around there.

Fact is, though, junkies have lost their regular marketing channels, so none of this is surprising.

Now, a question ~ do we have "sources" for this story? I've been checking elsewhere and no one seems to have picked up on it.

Something that is being taken out of context I think. Civil authority is breaking down in NO. I think it's silly to go after people for stealing food at a time like this. There are much bigger fish to fry...like this situation. And few resources at the moment.

*** They're "indigenous people expressing justifiable rage against white oppression." Get your names straight.***

They are just looting the stores the Mexicans won't loot.

Read on another thread that NO had released the prisoners and that the prisoners were the ones looting, getting guns, etc. But don't know if true.

If these fools can't figure out that a plasma tv is worthless without energy and a cable signal to plug it into, I don't think they will be able to crack a safe.

No mere welding torch would cut through a modern bank vault unless one had days and days and plenty of gas tanks -- at least the vault systems I know of.

Humanity hasn't sunk to this level.

Excusing gang violence and apologists for criminals are responsible for this.

Logical consequences for 40 years of liberalism.

To send the Delta Force, or any other regular unit, Posse Commitatus would have to be suspended, which, I believe, may be done by executive order. However, it might take an act of Congress.

In which case, the military/police should have cased off all the grocery stores, pharmacies, etc, confiscated all necessaties, inventoried them for future payment and began distributing them at official check points. This is irresponsability on the part of the government and heads had better roll by the dozens in NO.

I wouldn't be so quick to gather heads. The police and military understandibly propritized sacing lives over protecting property. However, it's now clear that looting is a question of both -- it's a question of how to make sure that food and other necessities get into the hands of those who need them most, and not those who get there first and can cart off the most (and probably gouge their neighbors for the surplus.

I strongly suspect that cities will draw up such plans now, in the form of standing orders to officers. One of the problems I heard about today was that radio coverage is spotty -- no dispatchers or repeaters, and even the hand-held radios have to be wearing down after a couple of days without being able to recharge them.

One cop said yesterday that a lot of them were meeting up in small groups, half a dozen or so, and improbising a plan when they couldn't cordinate with HQ. That' s not something beat cops are really trained to do, but maybe now they will be.

The ideal would be for neighborhoods to work out a plan -- with or without government involvement -- to seize and distribute available necessities. But let's face it -- anyone with the ability to cordinate such a thing with no more communications than a bullhorn was smart and able enough to get out of town.

I can just imagine the crafty al Qaeda plan:

"We want you to blend into a major American city that has not been hit by a hurricane in 40 years. Then, after the hurricane hits and the levee breaks, we want you to attack a hospital that has been evacuated of all except those too sick to travel. It will be a great victory for Allah!"
