Hostage Situation in New Orleans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.

LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.

The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).

Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.

There was rioting in Biloxi yesterday, probably continuing today.

It is easier to control in those areas though.

Kinda supports what JC Watts once said...."character and integrity are what you are when no one is looking." What we are seeing is what these people really are. What they were on Saturday was a false front that was there because of fear of being caught. Now that that fear is gone...they are being what they truely are. Amoral thugs and criminals.

Rioting could even spread if given lots of MSM coverage.

Absolutely.

These are Sen. Landrieu's voters. Bet Louisiana Demms will insist they be bused back to La. before the next election.

It's amazing what people will do once their stash of Crack is gone.

I guess I really am sheltered. I hadn't even considered the junkies going through withdrawals until now.

Jim might want to put up a FREEPER POLL.

Looters in disaster areas should be: a) Shot on Sight b) Shot to Wound c) Arrested and detained d) Photographed and dealt with later

I'd like to see the results of THAT poll.

The governor has already said that there is no such thing as "martial law" in Louisiana. She has declared a state of emergency, which allows law enforcment to do whatever is necessary to keep the peace and allows law enforcement officers to enter stores and take necessary supplies. Unfortunately, I'm afraid the looting started when some idle people saw the LEOs going into some stores and thought they were free game.

I agree it's probably the dealers, since trembling addicts in withdrawal aren't likely to have the ability to conduct such an operation. But what the heck do the dealers plan to do with the drugs? It's not like their customers are walking around with wads of cash right now, and their usual sources of cash -- panhandling and theft -- can't be yielding much cash. And I can't see the dealers accepted looted TVs and such, since they have no place to put them and no way to resell them in the foreseeable future.

The DC press corp was putting the Admiral on the spot asking about armed forces with the PD in N.O. They kept peppering him with questions about it.

I think they have some Spec War people in the area.

"Not to say that athesist's are murderers obviously, but I know that MY Christian beliefs temper my more base human side."

Well, I'm an atheist, and I can guarantee you that I wouldn't be looting or any such thing. I wouldn't even be there, since I would have left with my family, pets, and a few other people a couple of days before the hurricane.

This has nothing to do with religion or the lack of it.

We just got our power back last night (Fairhope Alabama) and am just now sitting down to read FR. You must be joking that someone actually is defending looters. Anyone who trys to justify looting would probably rob you blind if given the opportunity. Our hurricane boards plainly state, "looters will be shot on sight"...they don't know we don't own any guns! lol

Don't be fooled by the justifiers, these looters are NOT trying to feed a hungry family.

Just listening to a lady in Baton Rouge blaming Bush for New Orleans not being ready. ::sigh:: I would be so ashamed if I still lived in that area.

well, since real bullets seem to be flying around NO now...I guess they didn't dodge the bullet. It was supposed to be a slight play on words to fit the situation, but I guess I didn't make it plain enough. My regrets.
