Hostage Situation in New Orleans
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.
LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.
The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).
Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.
Oh yes. With the way threads are going, it's easy to get misunderstood.
A report of women being raped in the Superdome was on another thread.
"but it's not helpful to say FReepers have been apologizing for this kind of crap."
Doesn't matter if it's 'helpful' or not - it's true.
And apologizing and making excuses for people acting like savages is NOT 'helpful'.
There would be more security and less lawlessness, and probably less loss of life if the government adopted a policy of shooting looters on sight. Instead, you get more of the behavior you reward - and this is the obvious result.
That's what's sad - these same apologists can't see the consequences of their own "awww, these poor people" attitude. You reap what you sow, and the same lax attitude has reaped this action.
I can't disagree, but I would like to point out this lawless, uncivilized, sub-human behavior, is not exhibiting itself in Alabama and Mississippi.
We have a winner. There are probably a lot of opium addicts who are a bit edgy now.
I'm guessing the drug stores are empty.
Taser and Tranq gun all of them, tear gas if possible.
Glad to see I'm not the only one on slow simmer. Totally inexcusable this crap is being tolerated. And I do blame those who tolerate it or excuse it almost as much as those doing it.
Tell me about it! :^)
Or Epicac - makes you vomit
My mother in law must use that in some of her recipes
I sure hope you're right. And I hope they're taking this into mind with the resettlement programs - put the refugees in small, tightly supervised groups and scatter them about. Don't build a giant seething tent slum full of these animals. And make all young men work in the rebuilding efforts, unless they have some other job.
Ever since the Rodney King riots, I've been well-prepared should it happen again -- a lesson learned the hard way.
Sarcasm tag that is. It didn't post the way I typed it.
Yeah! :o)
I don't think it is. I think it's people with no conscience. This is the impossible and it is happening.
Kind of frightening how thin the line between civilization and chaos can be, no?
Owl_Eagle(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
>.However, people looting hospitals aren't being shot.
We didn't shoot looters either, in Baghdad.
Stop it. You're bound and determined to twist the truth for some strange goal of making FReepers out to be the bad guy here. I'm not getting on board with it.
It is a well known fact that many, many people who live in the Big Easy are druggies....we've been waiting for all places like pharmacies as well health care centers to be "stormed" by the pushers, dealers and addicts. Not a pretty picture, but then neither is the New Orleans dark side on any given day. Some of these people will be or are in a crazed state.
