Hostage Situation in New Orleans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a heads up, armed looters have taken over one of the medical centers in New Orleans where the injured people were being sent. They are holding the entire staff of the hospital hostage and firing at the national guard. An FBI SWAT team has just been flown in (from Baton Rouge I believe) and they are just now getting situated. I'm not sure of any online scanners that are up monitoring the state trs. That is where alot of traffic is going on at.

LSP Troop B is requesting immediate backup. Troopers, riot squad, and national guard. He said the crowd is triple the size it was earlier and they are about to be overrun.

The location is 610 and eleshafield(spelling?).

Should I make another thread that has events going on down there? Lots of stuff has gone on and half of it never makes it on the news or anything.

Send the Delta Force to Tulane.

You don't need the Delta Force, friend. You need some guardsmen with itchy trigger fingers who believe in law and order, and who are given the green flag for martial law.

I am beginning to think this report of martial law was bogus. Under martial law, are not all laws suspended? That means the security people do not have to fear all this political correct crap when attempting to restore law and order. I am not even sure if security officers can be held liable for the shooting of a citizen under martial law.

Regardless, it is shameful that the world is watching such lawlessness when we go around preachng to the rest of the world. The looters should have been shot when this first happened. That is how you stop chaos from breaking out. Once the thugs see it is a free for all, the go nuts and destroy whatever else survived.

He has since retracted his earlier optimism. Why keep bringing this up?

By the way...what makes me angry and mad as hell is that looters have not been shot on site(sight). Now that pisses me off.

Oh, I see. From your original post I thought you meant no one should be angry about the looting and violence. Thanks for clarifying, and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

You would think all these people would use their energy to begin cleanup or help others. I'm sure they feel it is someone else's (or the governments) job to make things right. Whatever happened to self-determination? This is just disgusting.

Rioting could even spread if given lots of MSM coverage.

That's a scary thought, but quite possible. Uncivilized inner city people across the nation spend a lot of time watching TV, and their are always troublemakers within their ranks, who are eager to spark civil disorder for their own purposes.

or keep the cameras running.

Then release a tape of "looters gone wild & put down" with the proceeds going to the hurricane victims.

Kind of frightening how thin the line between civilization and chaos can be, no?

So true Owl_Eagle. I've often thought it was a very thin line between genius and madness. This line might be even thinner. What is going on is absolutely stunning.

The mayor is doing every thing he can to stifle all these stories about looters, shootings and armed thugs causing chaos.

Source? Cause I've seen none of the sort. He's not sugarcoating now, earlier said the deaths would be in the hundreds or thousands.

I saw it first hand during the two riots in the DC area 3+ decades ago.

A few deaths visited upon these hooligans right now will save a lot more deaths a short ways down the road.

Another FReeper pointed this out, so I don't want to take credit, but handling these people with kidd gloves only encourages people in the future to "stay behind and help clean up".

I love the last paragraph in this story.......

"At a drug store in the French Quarter, people were running out with grocery baskets and coolers full of soft drinks, chips and diapers. Other looters were seen leaving a store with armfuls of tennis shoes and football jerseys."

Despite hardships, the ghetto defendants on the rampage in the city (and that's what they are) keep the kids fed and taken care of.........and they all remain in high fashion despite the hardships they face............amazing.

“I’ve got to ration stuff, you know. All the National Guard that knows how to fight hurricanes is over in Iraq. They took my cavalry, man.”

Huh? 65% of the LA Guard is still there but all the ones who know how to fight hurricanes are in Iraq? I guess Bush specifically called up "hurricane fighters" right before Karl Rove summoned the 'cane.

Hospital taken over by armed thugs. Last straw.

What happens in the "Homeland Security" color code threat level in a case like this? i.e., USA, under a state of war with terrorism (as the president keeps telling us, we are at war), on alert, starts to have one of it's major cities begin the slide into the intial stages of anarchy through looting, murder, and general lawlessness, with no significant counteraction to secure the peace by the Governor or the Mayor. Can this be declared a Homeland security emergency, based on the need to maintain social order when we have the potential for terrorists in our midst to take advantage of things, color code raised for this area, state and local forces federalized and sent in to restor order?
