We are not in danger of running out of gasoline in America. And if we are, then there are some incompetents running things.

Oh, the left cares deeply about losing the French Quarter, but that's it.

The left will go berserk - ... I guarantee that a request for an emergency injunction blocking this move is already being shopped to a "friendly" federal judge, A thought I have been having all day relates to your post.
I hope that is exactly what they do. NOW would be the perfect opportunity for that to happen and for the President et al, to put a stop to this bs judicial tyranny that has been forced on us.

Gasoline retailers ordinarily raise the prices just before Labor Day weekend, but now they have even more "reason" to jack up the prices (even though the wholesale price of the gas in the tanks at the stations wasn't affected by the Katrina-related impacts on crude production). The station in my town (central valley, Calif.) was selling premium for $3.05 last evening. I'm sure it's higher today.

That refinery's gas may be under contract to go elsewhere.

Call you congressman and ask the simple question: WHY no new refineries?

Albertson's here has the cheapest gas because the manager told me they contracted for new deliveries last Friday before the hurricane hit. Smart man.

If this was at his iniative, he has a real future. No substitutes for leaders with iniative. That was one problem in LA.

Mega dittos! What do you characterize something that is above and beyond "obscene profits"?

The President is going to speak at 5 today. Right, and he needs to. That's what leaders do....no matter the occasion and it's especially necessary for Americans to hear from the President at times like this. Leadership itself and notably the rare individuals who possess this wonderful attribute, frighten the life out of Liberals. It kills them that their political opponent is just such a man as this, every day of his life. Liberals would begrudge this President his time to speak to the nation, except everyone know that if the President failed address the nation, Liberals would scream themselves red about that too....

WHY no new refineries?
Bill Clinton and the nature conservancy, the sierra club and a host of other NGOs can tell you why.
The clinton executive order on environmental justice gave the environmentalists the legal status to sue the government and land owners wanting to build power plants and refineries, even when no harm to them or to anyone could be demonstrated.
Call congress and ask them to revoke that EO, and you will see progress on the refineries.

The president has me guessing and that's not good. His leadership skills in so many critical areas of concern for this country go begging. We have protected the hell out of the rights of Iraqis and shed blood for the defense of their country. When it comes to our defense from invasions from the south he's asleep at the wheel. For six years he's taken the invaders side using the invaders arguments for invading. When we have the greatest human disaster that this country has experienced, totally destroying a major city in the USA, he's got to stay at the ranch for a last round of horse shoes. WE'VE got to shake up this man and make him lead, and in the right direction, pray God. I understand where you're coming from. The press has a way of painting Bush as a no nothing know nothing neglectful and careless leader. We know better and we know what it takes behind the scenes for a President to do things, but with a hateful and misleading MSM, I wish the admin would do more to counteract the negative PR. But then again he risks looking like the propagandist Clinton if he actually tries to show more of his side of things.

No new refineries goes all the way back to Carter. It was under his watch that the regulation hoops became too much to jump through.
