MOSCOW Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.
"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.
Putin asked Bush to extend his condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the disaster.
"Accept my sincere words of regret in connection with the natural calamity in the USA. I know that hurricane Katrina, which swept the southeast coast of the country, resulted in deaths, left tens of thousands of Americans without roofs over their heads, and caused substantial damage to the region's economy," the message said. /RIA Novosti/

Amazing who steps up and who doesn't.
So far I have read Japan and Russia both have offered aid. Two former deadly enemies now offering a hand in friendship.
The silence is deafening from Europe, our long ally

Two things, first: Kosovo is not a nation but an illegally occupied province of Serbia and 2. Chiraq probably hates them as Americanized traitors.

My previous post was not intended to suggest that Canada would not offer aid. In fact,
Canada has stepped up to the plate - well, more precisely, Ontario. This article suggests that some politicians in Ontario are criticizing their premier (governor) for not responding more quickly - sounds familiar (remember the criticisms of Bush after the tsunami?). I also read that the federal government of Canada had offered assistance.

A tad more info for anyone who wants to write and thank Russia:
"Information on what sort of issues people raise in their letters to the President of Russia is updated weekly on the Presidents Web site."

Don't worry, in a day or three the UN and EU will be DEMANDING a report on how we allowed this tragedy to happen. Remember Beslan? The EU's response was to DEMAND a report from the Russians on how they allowed this to happen.

No offense, but I think we all need to temper our criticisms - aid and assistance will be offered by most everyone (and, in many cases, probably already has been offered). Although it's hard to believe, we are essentially only in the second day of recovery. Even now it is not entirely clear what is needed, and where any aid should go. They will all step up to the plate.

Two cargoplanes. Oh how nice.
Now lets see - didnt we give Russia about - oh I dont know - something like $200 BILLION dollars to rebuild their country?
And in return, they've stabbed in us in back by ARMING an anti-US Iranian regime, ferretting Saddam's chemical weapons out of Iraq, and sending missles to Syria??
Russia you want to help us? Stop supporting and arming the Iranian regime which is fighting us in Iraq! Stop the passive agressive crap of being nice to us with little things and stabbing our back on the big things.
